11 Dorinda Medley Quotes To Live By

by Emily Lackey

There's a lot to love about Dorinda Medley on any given season of The Real Housewives of New York. Sure, we all want her as a best friend, and she has the best vacation house ever, but she also has an amazing taste in clothing and interior design and is tough. Like really really tough. So tough that we could all stand to take a page from her book, memorize it, and recite it whenever we find ourselves in situations that we don't know how to handle. Because, here's the thing: that girl knows how to handle. Her. Self. In any situation. And, for that reason, there are plenty of Dorina Medley quotes to live by.

She stands up for herself when anyone might be doing her wrong, she can be totally honest with her friends, she puts her man in his place if she feels he's not being respectful of her time or her family, and she knows exactly when, in an evening or during a Sunday brunch, to keep drinking. (Answer: always.) Strong, steadfast, and deeply loyal, Dorinda has shared some choice quotes that we all could stand to listen to. Whether it's about how to move forward, how to take care of yourself, how to be a friend, or how to get through a night with a bunch of housewives alive, Dorinda always has the right quote for the right time.

So read these carefully, and highlight them if you have to, because these 11 bits of wisdom are words to live by.

1. "Don't do that sh*t."

Said to Kristin in reference to her grinding up on Dorinda's man, the message here is clear: sometimes things are black and white. There is a right and a wrong — and rubbing against your friend's boy is always, always wrong.

2. "She. Doesn’t. Need. Your. Meatball. And she obviously doesn’t want your meatball... Just eat your damn meatball."

Learn to take a hint. Some people are hard to befriend, but don't push it like Heather does with Bethenny. That's not how anyone ever made new friends.

3. "Back that sh*t up, and back it up quick."

Don't mess with family, especially Dorinda's.

4. "John—Johns' dead, so that's difficult."

For some of us, our glory days are in the past. But damn it all if living in that past is going to help us with anything. Let it go. Move on, Sonja. Madonna hasn't called you since 1985.

5. "Mind your own business."

Said to Ramona about Dorinda's relationship to John, this quote is on point. We really don't know who people are behind closed doors, and it's no one's place to pry. So be there for your friends when they need you, and otherwise keep your head down.

6. "Every day I got up, like it or not, and got out."

Everyone has bad days. Whether it's a break up or unemployment or a fight with your sister, there are going to be days when you feel like you want to stay in bed forever. But, if Dorinda can get up after losing her husband of 10 years and at least go for a walk, I'm pretty sure you can put a shirt on and go get froyo. Trust me, you'll feel better once you do.

7. "I don't know why I even came to this brunch. I mean, no one ever showed up, we didn't eat anything, and I just listened to these old b*tches fight the whole time."

That's right, girl. It's not brunch without bacon and good conversation. All the Bloody Mary's in the world couldn't save a brunch without those.

8. "I can't take any more of this back and forth, back and forth. I just want to drink."

Dorinda has the best philosophy on dealing with drama. Take a page from her book next time your friends try to suck you in to their pettiness.

9. "Don't come to lunch then."

Seriously, John. It was a proper lunch. Who takes a phone call during a proper lunch? Save it for the cab ride home.

10. "I would shut that sh*t down so quickly it wouldn't happen."

If you let people walk all over you, they will. Shut that sh*t down like Dorinda does, before it even happens.

11. "All right, Van Gogh. Time to go to bed. Enough already."

Definitely the most important of all Dorinda's advice: know when to turn it off, when to shut it down, and when to end a night.

Let these quotes be your guide to being as large and in charge as Dorina always is. These housewives might be dramatic and catty, and occasionally terrible people, but you can't deny that they are also total bosses.
