7 Fitness Hacks That Don't Involve The Gym

by Emily McClure

Love exercising, but don't want to commit to that pricey gym membership? Good news — you don't have to. There are several ways to get fit without heading to the gym. Everyone knows that exercising is vital to a healthy lifestyle, but that doesn't mean you have spend your hard-earned money to get a toned body. Now, trust me. I understand the appeal of a fancy gym membership. Gyms have saunas, group classes, and a whole other variety of perks. It sounds luxurious, but sometimes it's just not worth the price tag. By the time you have paid the membership fee, rented a locker, and booked a space in the yoga class, you've spent half-a-month's rent. Think of all the drinks you could have gotten at happy hour for that price! Or just don't think about that. It's depressing.

Avoid nervous glances and smelly locker rooms by getting fit on your own time. You don't need a gym to turn yourself a fitness goddess. Those fancy juice bars and complicated equipment have nothing on what you can do on your own. All you need is yourself, and the desire to get fit. Wondering how this could even be possible? Here are a few ways to get fit, and avoid the gym.

1. Get Outside

It's almost summertime, people! Tie on your tennis shoes, and get going. Whether it's for a brisk job or a stroll through the park, cardio gets so much better once you get outside. Plus it's a perfect excuse to do some window shopping!

2. Rent A Bike

Cities across the country have bike rental shops. Stop in and book one for an hour! Biking works so many of your core muscle groups, and is overall a fun time. Don't just take the easy road either. Really get into it by taking the hilly trail or even going off-road.

3. Bring Your Dog

You know who is a perfect motivator to get you off of the couch? Your dog! They love you just the way you are, but you can bet that they would love to go exercise with you as well. Whether it's taking them for a walk or going for a kayak ride, your four-legged friend will be sure to appreciate it.

4. Get Online

The Internet is FULL of fitness videos! Want to do yoga with out ever leaving the house? Check. Want to get killer abs without taking off your pjs? Check. The Internet can be a very beautiful thing. My favorite fitness videos are by Cassey Ho. She has a wide range of videos working every muscle group. There is no excuse not to start getting fit.

5. Don't Leave Your House

Go to any room in your house, and stretch out your arms. Are they touching the walls? No? There is your newest spot to work out. Now give me fifteen jumping jacks.

6. Make It A Group Activity

Working out is the best when you don't feel like it's a hassle. Set up a fun afternoon activity with your friends that involves something new. Kayaking, paddle boating, and hiking are all activities that are way more fun with friends. Plus they all burn A LOT of calories.

7. Use Your Furniture

Who needs fancy gym equipment when you can use your furniture? Try using a study coffee table to do a few pushups or even use a chair to do leg lifts. Exercising has never been easier.
