Americans Are The Worst Tourists, Says Survey, But It Turns Out Everyone Else Is Pretty Bad, Too

Vacations are supposed to be nice things — things that include fancy hotels, beautiful beaches, and delicious food. Treat yo' self, right? Well, according to a new global survey by travel discount website Travelzoo, those of us from the United States might treat ourselves a little too much during our time abroad. That's right: Americans are the worst tourists ever. Or at least, we're among the worst tourists, mostly because we're really badly behaved.

Travelzoo polled the United States, Great Britain, Canada, Germany and China regarding all their dirty little vacay secrets, and the results are... not flattering. While Canadians were most likely to save a lounge chair with a towel for later, Germans were most likely to cheat on their spouses. People from China were most likely to research vacations on their work computers and sneak goods through customs — but American tourists swept the competition with four major fouls, including skipping on the bill and peeing in the pool.

This is why we can't have nice things.

At a glance, here are some bad things that Americans are apparently good at. Basically, we're the best at being the worst. That's not really something to be proud of. Maybe those six ways people abroad can always spot Americans aren't just stereotypes after all...

1. 13 percent of Americans have skipped out on the bill.

2. 24 percent have called in sick to extend their vacation an extra day.

3. 64 percent have peed in the pool or the ocean.

4. 69 percent have taken toiletries, slippers or robes home from a hotel.

Ugh. Honestly, guys?
