Feel a little better about Monday now? True, it's not Friday yet — but at least we've got something tasty to look forward to at the end of the week. Right?
Technically Krispy Kreme's birthday isn't July 10; it's July 13. On that day in 1937, the first Krispy Kreme donuts made their way into the world, courtesy of a a recipe founder Vernon Rudolph had learned from a French chef in New Orleans. Rudolph rented a building in Winston-Salem, North Carolina as his home base and began selling his magical creations to grocery stores in the area. Eventually Rudolph literally cut a hole in the wall of the Krispy Kreme building and began selling donuts to passersby through it, as well, and, well… you probably know how it went.
So, while Krispy Kreme prepares to blow out 78 candles (hopefully atop a giant donut, rather than a birthday cake), the bakery has also taken the opportunity to gift us all with a little dose of deliciousness. Unlike most of Krispy Kreme's deals, this one involves a little more than just walking into your friendly neighborhood donut shop and walking out with a pastry, no question asked. First, you need to deal with some Facebook shenanigans; then you need to buy a dozen donuts at the regular price first. That's right — it's a BOGO deal, not an out-and-out “12 donuts for cheap” deal.
The deal will be in operation at participating Krispy Kreme locations in the U.S. and Canada on July 10; the fun will later spread to Taiwan, the Philippines, Thailand, Singapore, and Malaysia on July 13. Here's how it works:
1. Go to Krispy Kreme's Facebook page and find this offer.
As of… about, 8:45 this morning, it's the first one on the page, so it's kind of hard to miss.
2. Click “Get offer.”
Bonus: You don't need to share the offer in order to get it, although you may certainly do so if you wish to spread the sense of joy that can only be achieved by cheap pastries.
3. Check your email.
You should have a message from Facebook sitting in your inbox that looks something like this. Check your spam folder if you don't see it immediately — because no donut deserves to be abandoned the awful fate that is the spam folder. Whatever you do, don't delete the email!
4. Go to the nearest participating Krispy Kreme location.
You could also go to the furthest participating Krispy Kreme location, but doing so might involve jumping through a few more hoops than most of us are willing to hop.
5. Buy a dozen donuts.
Typically a dozen Original Glazed donuts at Krispy Kreme costs about $10.
6. Show the email about the deal to the good folk behind the counter.
This is why it's so important not to delete it — although you can always have Facebook resend it to you from Krispy Kreme's page if you accidentally did the unthinkable.
7. Receive a second dozen Original Glazed donuts for a mere 78 cents.
Et voila! Two dozen donuts for just 78 more cents than the cost of a regular dozen. Now go find 23 other people to give out your donuts to. Nothing brightens someone's day quite like an unexpected pastry!
