The Hoff Stars In 'Sharknado 3'

by Mallory Carra

In the wonderfully campy Sharknado universe, Fin Shepard (played by Ian Ziering) has a true gift — he can stand up and defeat sharks whirling around in tornadoes. He's a special character who could only have a special dad. So, of course, the legendary David Hasselhoff plays Fin's dad Gilbert Shepard in Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No! which premieres on Syfy on Wednesday night. I mean, who else would be better suited to portray one of the parents who gave the world this chainsaw-wielding, shark-slaying hero? Considering The Hoff's past roles, he is the perfect man to play Fin's father.

Fin saved Los Angeles from the marine disaster in the first Sharknado movie in 2013, and then he saved New York City from two shark-filled twisters last year. In Sharknado 3, Gilbert joins the shark-tornado fighting gang as threat now targets the entire East Coast, from Washington, D.C. to Orlando, Florida. The Hoff told HuffPost Live that Sharknado 3 will be "the worst movie you have ever seen," while chuckling. He continued: "The first one was the worst. The second one I think was even worse than the first. I’m so honored to be in Sharknado 3 ... Everybody’s in on the joke, and it is so much fun."

Not only does Hasselhoff seem to totally understand Sharknado, his previous roles and experiences have fully prepared him to play the Shepard patriarch.

He's Used To Being In The Water

Remember Baywatch? He became famous for playing Lifeguard Mitch Buchannon on the long-running 90s TV series.

He's Not Afraid Of Sharks

Even a stuffed one.

He Has Sang With A Shark

Could he finally bring about peace between humans and sharknadoes?

He Saved Lots Of Lives In Knight Rider

As Michael Knight, The Hoff fought crime in the 80s with that famous talking car. But, will KIT the car make a cameo in Sharknado? Hmm.

He Has Experience With This Type Of Humor

Believe it or not, this music video is for a song released in 2015. Hasselhoff sings the 80s-themed synth song "True Survivor" for the soundtrack of the movie Kung Fury. And, it's seriously as awful and amazing as it sounds.

He's A Good Sport

In 2010, Comedy Central roasted The Hoff in one of their famous specials. If you can survive one of those, you can survive anything.

He's Really Good At Being Campy

He may even be the best at it. I mean, this is one of many videos where he just goes to town with a green screen, and it's glorious.

But, the question remains: Did Fin inherit his chainsaw skills from his father? I guess we'll have to tune in to find out.
