The Most-Searched People Of 2013 Are Revealing

by Alanna Bennett

You can tell a lot about a society by who they search for the most on the Internet. From the year of 2013 that is overwhelmingly entertainers, mainly female ones, and the president of the United States. So... that seems about right. Beyoncé and Kim Kardashian are the top two most-searched names, if that's a bit of trivia that interests you.

Here is the list itself, via People, in order:

1. Beyoncé2. Kim Kardashian 3. Rihanna 4. Taylor Swift 5. Madonna 6. Justin Bieber 7. Nicki Minaj 8. Amanda Bynes 9. Miley Cyrus 10. Barack Obama

One thing that should be noted is that this list is from Bing, which is not Google, it's... Bing. Who actually uses Bing? Regardless, this seems about right. It's also pretty interesting that, as we mentioned before, 80 percent of the people on this list are women.

We'd also venture to say that doesn't have as much to do — with the notable exception of Beyoncé, who has a following almost disturbingly assured of her perfection — with Internet-searchers rooting for female success so much as being endlessly fascinated with the ways in which these women are constantly in the public eye for various manufactured scandal*, and/or controversy, and/or side-boob. 'Cause most people are not searching Kim Kardashian to applaud her.

And hey, that's America right now: Just a little bit more interested in the public "crises" of Miley Cyrus and Amanda Bynes than we are in what the leader of the free world is up to these days.

*The People article pits Beyonce against Kim Kardashian despite the fact that they are publicly friends.
