Inside The Mafia Mamma Screening That Transported Viewers To Italy
The hilarious film, starring Toni Collette and Monica Bellucci, is now in theaters.
If you’re feeling adventurous but only have an hour and 41 minutes to get away, grab your passport and head to your nearest theater to see Mafia Mamma. (Just kidding. You don’t really need your passport. But if having it with you makes the adventure more exciting, nobody’s stopping you from slipping it into your purse.) The comedy, starring Toni Collette and Monica Bellucci, is a must-see Italian getaway film with more twists and turns than a bowl of fusilloni.
In Mafia Mamma, Kristin (Collette) is a hard-working suburban mom who needs a little spice in her life after her son leaves for college and she catches her husband with another woman. Stuck at a crossroads, Kristin gets the opportunity of a lifetime when she receives a call that her estranged grandfather, Giuseppe Balbano (Alessandro Bressanello) has passed away, leaving her an estate that includes a family business. Kristin jets off to Italy, unaware that she’s about to become the boss of a Mafia family.
If simply reading the description of this film has given you a case of secondhand imposter syndrome, don’t worry. Kristin has the help of Bianca (Bellucci), the Balbano family’s trusted general and consiglieri who helps the newly-appointed boss along the way. Of course, Kristin’s journey isn’t without enough hilarious hijinks to keep you laughing throughout the entire movie.
To celebrate the premiere of Mafia Mamma, Bleecker Street Films teamed up with Bustle to take viewers on an Italian adventure without having to leave Manhattan. Featuring bites that gave attendees a taste of Italy, signature cocktails inspired by the film (Prosecco, anyone?), and a tarot reading station that encouraged guests to see what the future holds, the event proved that there’s no better way to spend an evening than by having a good laugh and an even better glass of wine. After the screening, Bleecker Street Films encouraged guests to keep the good vibes going with a wine tote filled with Mafia Mamma inspired bottles.
