This Clue From The Pitt Trailer Teases A Break From Tradition
Viewers may be clocking in a little earlier than usual.
The Pitt returns in January, but as a little summer treat, the hit series just dropped an early first look at Season 3. And there’s a lot going on!
The next chapter takes place in November, falling on Dr. Robby’s first day back at work after his sabbatical. But while the medical drama’s first two installments began with Robby clocking in for his shift, it looks like Season 3 might be shaking things up in an exciting way.
The Season 3 teaser starts with Dr. Abbot addressing his night-shift colleagues, “Nightcrawlers! Let’s clear up this board and show day shift how it’s done.” As one astute Redditor pointed out, the screen behind him shows a time of 6:06 a.m. — a full hour earlier than we’re used to seeing from past seasons, which have begun at 7 a.m. The viewer theorized that there could be “an entire episode following the night shift with day shift trickling in by the end of the episode.”
The team behind The Pitt has generally shut down hopes for a spinoff series focused on the night shift, with Shawn Hatosy (who plays Abbot) recently telling The Playlist: “I’ve heard kind of explicitly from HBO Max and even Noah [Wyle] in the press that that’s not something that they want to do. As much as I’d be into it, it doesn’t sound like it’s a real possibility.”
However, by seemingly starting Season 3 a little earlier in those wee hours of the morning, The Pitt may be giving the night shift more time to shine — much to fans’ delight. One commenter called it a “nice change of pace to start the season,” while another said it would help the show avoid slipping into a “stale” pattern.
Expanding its night-shift storyline isn’t the only way The Pitt is tweaking its formula for Season 3. Earlier this summer, Shabana Azeez told Bustle that her character, Victoria Javadi, would shift her focus in the upcoming episodes.
“I can say that I’m not in the ER this season,” she said. “I’ve done my ER rotation, so I’m doing my psychiatry rotation.” (That isn’t to say the student doctor will be missing from the action, of course! She’s doing quite a lot in the Season 3 teaser.) “It’s a very different vibe for me. And I’m scared and nervous. But it’s an honor to be able to show that part of medicine.”
