11 DIY Gifts To Give Your BFF To Show Them You Care

by Kaitlyn Wylde

There's no reason to wait for holidays or birthdays to show your bestie that you care. While bi-weekly wine night catch-ups might feel like they suffice, it's important to spend quality time with each other in a more laid back setting. You know, sitting around the living room, on a Sunday afternoon, like you did when you were kids? That kind of hang time is a higher quality. Complaining about your boss over a glass of wine for an hour on a week night does not compare to some PG hang time that you can spend together doing a project and working on something together. So here are some ideas for DIY gifts to give your BFF that you can indulge in, together.

Be it a treat, an art project, a useful hack, or something a bit more ambitious, consider enriching your friendship with a token of appreciation, or your hang time with some fun DIY projects to keep you entertained and connected. Not to mention, there's no greater way to remind your BFF that they matter than randomly giving them a gift for no reason other than the fact that you thought of them, and you though they would enjoy it. That's love right there.

Personalized Tea Bags

Pick up a few different flavors of loose tea, and some empty tea bags. Mix your bestie a flavor of tea that you know she'll love. Fill a dozen tea bags with the loose tea leaf, make up a name for their personalized brew, and gift it to them in a small box or decorated paper bag.

Instagram Photo Album

Print out some photos that you and your bestie posted on Instagram and put them into a photo album like the good old days. You know, when you could look through your memories without having to be on your phone.

Custom Mugs

Get two blank mugs, some dishwasher safe markers, and have a mug decorating get-together. Decorate mugs for each other with personal messages of encouragement that can be useful to read while having your morning coffee! Aka, "Don't be late, again".

Homemade Candles

Do you know how easy it is to make a candle at home? All you need to do is buy some wax (or use an old candle), melt it down on a double broiler, add some of your favorite essential oils, let it cool, and then pour it into a jar, add a wick, and let it harden. It's highly customizable and surprisingly fun.

Shared Scrapbook

Get a scrapbook and some art supplies and get together to fill it out. Maybe it's a project you finish in one afternoon, or maybe you work on it for years. You'll be so glad to have your memories saved in a non-digital file, no matter how you do it.

Bucket List Jar

Instead of just dreaming about checking things off your bucket list, be proactive. Write down all of the things you want to do together on separate pieces of paper, fold them, and place them in a jar. Every time you hang out, pick a piece of paper from the jar and do it!

Friendship Bracelet

No, not a string bracelet that doesn't come off — c'mon, we're adults. Make an elevated adult friendship bracelet with your bestie. Get two chains, some beads or charms, or pendants and make matching jewelry pieces to celebrate your friendship.

Notebook With Prompts

If your bestie isn't great at journaling, get them a notebook and fill it in with prompts to help make it easier for them to get writing. Every few pages, write another question, like "What's the weirdest thing that happened today?" or, "What would be the perfect Sunday?"

Reminder Cards

Get a few flash cards and with pretty markers or colored pencils, write out a few kind reminder cards for your bestie. For example, on the front of one card, write "For when you stressed about money" and then on the back write "Call on me and we'll go do something fun for free!" Or, "For when you don't like what you see in the mirror" and then on the back "You have the most beautiful eyes and I'm obsessed with your style".

Wall Art

Find a still from a movie or a quote that means something to you and your bestie. Maybe it's a lyric from a song you both like, or a line from a book or poem or an image that resonates with you both. Print out the image, or write out the quote on a piece of canvas or poster paper and then frame it for your bestie.

Canvas Print

If you're not too handy with a paintbrush, get some printer-friendly canvas and print out an Instagram photo that would mean something to your bestie. If you are handy with a paintbrush, paint the picture for them!
