Hermione Quotes To Inspire You In 2017

Hermione Granger remains the best character to come out of the Harry Potter franchise. This Gryffindor Queen is more than clever, loyal, and brave. Her clapbacks at Harry and Ron, and literal slapping of Draco Malfoy make her my personal hero. As J.K. Rowling expands her Wizarding World through Pottermore and movies and plays, it is comforting to know that Hermione will always be there.

This Muggle-born daughter of two dentists made a name for herself from her very first year. Without Hermione, there would be no Harry James Potter. There would be no Ron either, since they would've both been choked to death by Devil's Snare. But aside from continuously saving the life of The Boy Who Lived, Hermione transforms across seven books. She goes from a large-toothed, frizzy-haired, friendless ickle firstie, to a confident witch and an integral part of the rebellion against Voldemort. Though, Hermione would have been the brightest witch of her age even if she hadn't let Madame Pomfrey shrink her teeth. And even if she hadn't used Sleekeazy to tame her hair, she would still be, as Ron might say, bloody brilliant.

There are hundreds of quotes from the Harry Potter series for any situation. But here is some Hermione wisdom for all sorts of situations you might encounter in the new year.

1. For when you think of your Ride or Dies

"Books! And cleverness! There are more important things — friendship and bravery."

2. For remembering that you are not a consolation prize

"[P]luck up the courage and ask me before somebody else does, and not as a last resort!"

3. For treating yourself at least once this year

"Is that really what my hair looks like from the back? "

4. For when your friends don't read the book before the movie

"Honestly, don't you two read?"

5. For when you want people to let you live

“Don’t you tell me what to do, Harry Potter!”

6. For when your friends and family are not woke

“It’s people like you, Ron, who prop up rotten and unjust systems—”

7. For when you need to rebel

"It's sort of exciting, isn't it? Breaking the rules."

8. For when you want to remember what you're fighting for

"I’m hoping to do some good in the world!”

9. For when you need to be brave even when you're afraid

“We will fight! ...We’re the only ones who can end it!”

10. For remembering your intersectional feminism

"When are you going to get it into your head? We're in this together!"

11. For these dark times

“As the Dark Lord becomes ever more powerful, your race is set still more firmly above mine! Gringotts falls under Wizarding rule, house-elves are slaughtered, and who amongst the wand-carriers protests?”

“We do!” said Hermione. She had sat up straight, her eyes bright. “We protest! And I’m hunted quite as much as any goblin or elf, Griphook! I’m a Mudblood!”

“Don’t call yourself —” Ron muttered.

“Why shouldn’t I?” said Hermione. “Mudblood, and proud of it! I’ve got no higher position under this new order than you have, Griphook! It was me they chose to torture, back at the Malfoys’!”

12. For conquering your fears

"Fear of the name only increases fear of the thing itself."

13. For a better future

"Everything is going to change now, isn't it?"
