What Corinne Taught 'Bachelor' Fans

by Marenah Dobin
Rick Rowell/ ABC

The most talked about person on this season of The Bachelor was Corinne Olympios. It should have be the Bachelor himself Nick Viall, but pretty much every episode was based around what Corinne would do next. On the latest episode, Corinne got the boot before Fantasy Suites, but while she was on the show a lot of people boxed her in with the the "villain" label. But if you step outside of that reality TV stereotype, you might see that she actually has a lot more to offer. In fact, there are a lot of lessons that fans could learn from Corinne's antics on The Bachelor.

Sure, a lot of the things I gathered from Corinne were "what not to do," but I think that can be helpful. It really just depends on your perspective. Here's the thing: There has to be a "villain" on every season of The Bachelor/ette. Otherwise, we are just subjected to two-hour episodes of people gushing over the same suitor who's making out with almost all of them.

TV shows need conflict to be interesting (and to stay on the air), so of course there is always a "villain." But just because some is designated with that role, it does not mean that he or she is a horrible person in real life. The people behind the scenes at this show know what they're doing when it comes to showing story lines that the fans will care about watching.

A lot of people may have bought into a stereotypical view of Corinne, but there really was more to her. She actually did have some wisdom to impart. Well, maybe not wisdom per se, but there were definitely things to be learned from watching Corinne on The Bachelor.

1. Go After What You Want

Sure, a lot of the contestants and the viewers didn't agree with Corinne's tactics, but there's something to be admired when it comes to her ability to establish a goal and do what she can to find success.

2. Ask For Feedback

Unfortunately, it didn't end up seeming like Corinne really meant it when she told the other women to let her know if they had any problems with her, but she did take a good first step in asking for feedback from others.

3. Sleep Is Important

I don't think it's cool to nap through obligations without any apology, but Corinne is not wrong: Sleep is important. Just make sure you get in your rest at appropriate times.

4. Be Comfortable With Your Body

Corinne's body confidence is definitely something to be admired. The human body is beautiful and should be celebrated.

5. Never Feel Timid About Snacking In A Social Setting

I never understood why so many people are hesitant to be the first person in line at a buffet or shy away from eating on dates. There's no reason to be self-conscious when it comes to chewing in public. Snack hard or go home.

6. Don't Tolerate Condescension

Just because someone is doing something you don't agree with, that doesn't justify condescending behavior. Don't act like you're better than anyone and do not accept that negativity coming your way either. Before the #TeamTaylor people come for me about this one, I do not agree with all of the tactics Corinne used to defend herself (i.e. name calling), but I do think that it was good that she stood up for herself when Taylor initially questioned her intelligence.

7. It's OK To Ask For Help

I get why Corinne has taken a lot of heat for saying that she has a nanny. From the footage we got to see on the show, Corinne did not explain her relationship with Raquel or the role she plays in her life in the most effective way. Nevertheless, most of us don't achieve success on our own. Whether it's asking someone for advice, relying on a friend for support, or having an actual nanny, there's nothing wrong with asking for help... as long as you're grateful and willing to work hard yourself.

8. Be Your Own Biggest Fan

If you aren't going to root for you, then who is? There's no need to completely pull a Corinne and refer to yourself in the third person, but there's nothing wrong with having some self-confidence.

9. Don't Dish It Out If You Can't Take It

The real lesson here is that if you can't take something, then you probably shouldn't be dishing it out in the first place.

10. Work Hard, Play Hard

Corinne lives life to the fullest. Not only does she strive to have a good time, but she also takes pride in her professional accomplishments.

11. Don't Take Life Too Seriously

Life is too short to sweat the small stuff. Sometimes it's just best to laugh it off and move on.

12. Keep In Mind That You Don't Get To See Every Side Of Every Person

Yes, Corinne really did do the things we watch every week, but there is a lot more to her than what makes the cut in each episode. It's important to realize that there is more to people than what they publicly represent.

13. Do Not Wish Harm On Others

Instead of trying to take down Taylor, Corinne should have just focused on pointing out the good attributes in herself and strengthening her own bond with Nick. Learn from Corinne's mistake here and don't you dare think about getting a voodoo doll.

14. Think About How Your Actions Affect Others

This is the biggest lesson that we can all learn from watching Corinne on TV. We have intentions with all of our actions, but they do not always come off the way that we planned. It is crucial to pay attention to the people in your life and how they react to your behavior and do what you can to better yourself, if applicable.

Whether you agree with her or want to take the "do the opposite of Corinne" approach, there were plenty of lessons to be learned from watching her on this season of The Bachelor.
