Now that we’ve all taken a collective sigh of relief that 2016 is finally, finally over, it’s time to don those big-girl-business pants once more and step intrepidly into the future (or as my homeboy Dumbledore might say: “Let us step out into the night and pursue that flighty temptress, adventure!”) But after the year that 2016 was, I don’t blame you for needing a little inspiration for 2017 — and there is no better way to get energized, motivated, and ready for the new year ahead than with some of Professor Albus Dumbledore’s best quotes, perfect for inspiring you in 2017. He was the sage giver of advice and wisdom of the Harry Potter crew, after all.
Plus, there is something about Dumbledore’s wisdom that feels especially fitting for the year ahead — as we move into an unknown future that very well might resemble (but let’s hope not) the political landscape of the Second Wizarding War. And as ominous (and again, let’s hope unlikely) as that might seem, it can’t hurt to be armed with some Dumbledore-inspired wisdom.
9“Don’t you see? Voldemort himself created his worst enemy, just as tyrants everywhere do! Have you any idea how much tyrants fear the people they oppress? All of them realize that, one day, amongst their many victims, there is sure to be one who rises against them and strikes back!”
11“You know, the Stone was really not such a wonderful thing. As much money and life as you could want! The two things most human beings would choose above all — the trouble is, humans do have a knack of choosing precisely those things that are worst for them.”
13"It was important, Dumbledore said, to fight, and fight again, and keep fighting, for only then could evil be kept at bay, though never quite eradicated…"
15“Remember, if the time should come when you have to make a choice between what is right and what is easy, remember what happened to a boy who was good, and kind, and brave, because he strayed across the path of Lord Voldemort. Remember Cedric Diggory.”
