When the 2017 Emmy Award nominations were announced on July 13, there was a big surprise for one of the presenters. And Anna Chlumsky's reaction to her Primetime Emmy nomination is absolutely priceless. As the actor stood on stage next to Shemar Moore reading out the names of nominated series and actors who would be acknowledged during this year's ceremony, she learned that she, too, was in the running for an Emmy Award.
This year's nod would become Chlumsky's fifth for her portrayal of Amy Brookheimer in the HBO series, Veep — although you wouldn't be able to tell by her enthusiastic reaction to the news. Her excitement made it feel as if it was her very first time all over again.
In the midst of the presentation, which was live streamed on Thursday morning, Moore was handed a mysterious envelope; it was an act that seemingly threw both actors for a loop, as they had previously appeared to be reading the noms from a teleprompter in the distance. As Moore coyly peeled open the sealed ballot at about 8:15 in the video, Chlumsky remained curious of its contents. Once Moore realized what was inside, he joyously exclaimed, "oh yeah, this is fun!" before continuing with, "Congratulations on her fifth consecutive Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress In a Comedy for Veep... none other than my sweetheart right here."
Chlumsky was overjoyed by the news as she cupped her hands over her mouth in disbelief. Moore later joked that she had become "the Meryl Streep of TV" as she responded, "I don't know about that."
She was certainly appreciative of the honor, thanking everyone and gushing about how "cool" it was to receive the nomination in writing, now that she had the card it was presented on.
Despite the fact that she's been nominated five times, Chlumsky has yet to take home an Emmy. So this, hopefully, will be her year. Win or lose though, her excitement for the nomination just makes you love her even more, doesn't it?
