When two celebrities star in a movie together and form a close bond, it's only natural for people to suspect that they might be romantically involved. Take two of the stars of Spider-Man: Homecoming, who have made a lot of people ask the following: Are Tom Holland and Zendaya dating? Their relationship is close, but it's more silly than romantic.
Just because they star together in the new Marvel film doesn't mean they are dating, though seeing as they appear to be tight, it's understandable why some people might assume that. Plus, there have also been rumors swirling about them dating. For example, The Mirror reported in April that Holland had moved into Zendaya's Los Angeles home.
That said, it doesn't look like they are actually dating, and you can thank Zendaya for shutting down the rumors. In June, the Disney Channel star took to Twitter and told the world everything we need to know about the romance rumors.
It all began when Zendaya posted an Instagram of herself and captioned it, "Stealing hearts since 96'." Apparently, Holland couldn't help himself and took a jab at the 20-year-old by posting an Instagram of himself and writing next to it, "Stealing hearts since never [crying laughing face emoji] @zendaya." She then replied to him by tweeting a screenshot of the 21-year-old's IG and wrote, "I really can't stand him [four crying laughing face emojis]."
Of course, the British actor responded with a tweet reading, "Apart from when you want a part in Spiderman 2 [four crying laughing face emojis]." To that, she replied, "Watch yourself, I still have more followers than you right now...tread lightly my freind [sic]...tread lightly [three crying laughing face emojis]."
This is a pretty great Twitter conversation between two celebs, right?
Based on just those tweets, it's easy to see why some people probably thought they could be flirting. But on the other hand, it also looks like they were having pure fun by joking around with each other, you know, like friends do.
Well, one particular Twitter user had to comment by tweeting, "Zendaya and Tom Holland, someone is cooking some sweet romance on Twitter today." It caught Zendaya's eye and she responded with sarcasm so perfect you'll wish you were her friend, too. She wrote, "Right, cause nothing says 'sweet romance' like dragging each other for filth on twitter. [three crying laughing face emojis]"
They truly do respect and admire one another, too. While chatting with EW Morning Live in June, Zendaya gushed about her Spider-Man co-star, "He’s great. I think the most important thing to me is that he is a good person, and it’s good to know that the person who gets to play your favorite superhero is actually a nice dude." Holland feels the same way about Zendaya, as he told The Hollywood Reporter, "She is one of the most professional, hardworking people I've ever met in my life."
They really do have a special connection, and when it comes to Zendaya, she's not afraid to tell fans where they stand.
