'Beauty & The Beast’ Is Officially Oscar Nominated & Fans Are Over The Moon

On the morning of Tuesday, Jan. 23, the 2018 Oscar nominations were announced and a certain Disney film grabbed some nods that fans are very excited about. Beauty and the Beast is now Oscar nominated with nominations for Best Production Design and Best Costume Design. The film, which premiered in March of last year, wasn't expected to get nominated in any major acting categories or for directing or Best Picture, but the nominations for production and costume design make a lot of sense considering the scope of the film and the attention to detail given to bring the 1991 animated classic to life. In those categories, Sarah Greenwood and Katie Spencer are nominated for Best Production Design, and Jacqueline Durran for Best Costume Design.

Going into the nominations, prediction site Gold Derby put forth that Beauty and the Beast would be nominated in three categories: Best Production Design, Best Costume Design, and Best Original Song for "Evermore". It also predicted that the movie will not win any of the awards it's nominated for. Of course, the Best Original Song nomination didn't end up happening, but the movie and song Gold Derby thinks will win — "Remember Me" from Coco — is nominated, as are the movies it predicts will take Best Costume Design (Phantom Thread) and Production Design (The Shape of Water). Vanity Fair also predicted nominations for Beauty and the Beast in the same three categories, as did Variety and IndieWire.

But regardless of what it was nominated for and the chances of it actually winning come March 4, many fans of Beauty and the Beast are just happy to see it recognized at all.

These costumes brought people to tears, y'all.

Some Fans Wanted More, Though

Understandably, some fans wanted the film to get a nod for Best Original Song, as well. In 1992, the animated version of the movie was nominated for six Academy Awards, including three for Best Original Song for "Beauty and the Beast", "Belle", and "Be Out Guest". It won in the category for "Beauty and the Beast" and also won for Best Original Score. The film was also nominated for Best Picture and Best Sound.

While the 2017 version of Beauty and the Beast is only nominated in two categories, there is still a good chance that fans will see the stars of the movie in attendance. Emma Watson, Dan Stevens, and their co-stars could either show up to the support the movie in the nominations it did get, or they could be chosen as presenters. For now, Disney fans will just have to wait until the presenters lists are released and blast "Evermore" on repeat in the hopes that it will put some good luck into the world. Their fave film of the year just might take home a couple statuettes come March.
