Bonner Wants It That Way On 'DWTS'

Eric McCandless/ABC

I’m saying this now — the boy band/girl band theme on the April 24 episode of Dancing With The Stars is the best theme that the show has ever come up with. Ever. That’s because it combines my favorite things — the pop music of the early 2000s and watching celebrities dance really badly (in some cases)! What can I say? I’m easy to please. Among my favorite dances of the night was Bonner Bolton’s. Bonner became a Backstreet Boy on Dancing With The Stars, and yes, I want it that way.

It was easy to guess that Bonner was going to get a Backstreet Boys song because his partner, Sharna Burgess, was previously partnered with Backstreet Boy Nick Carter (who happened to be a guest judge on this episode, too). And dance to the Backstreet Boys Sharna and Bonner did, a romantic and sexy dance indeed. Bonner and Sharna have insane chemistry, and even though I don’t really consider “I Want It That Way” to be a sexy song (probably because I listened to it over and over when I was 11 and didn’t know what sexy was at that point… I still don’t), they really steamed up the stage. Bravo, Bonner and Sharna!

The judges were more “meh” about Bonner and Sharna than I was, scoring them with sevens and eights to put them in the middle of the pack. They’re not the best, but they’re not the worst. Personally, I want to see Bonner do more boy band choreography. What about a little bit of shoulder shrugging? What about the move where you raise your arm up in the air and bring it down very slowly? Maybe a spin or two? Bonner has proven his boy band potential on Dancing With The Stars, so if bull riding doesn’t work out, it’s nice to know he has a back up.
