As if the terrible year that is 2016 just had to be even more terrible, the final week went and took Princess Leia. And with that, it proved — once again — that it is indeed the worst year. On Dec. 27, Star Wars hero and real-life hero Carrie Fisher passed away at the age of 60. Shortly after the news of her untimely death broke, several members of the actress and author's family released statements, including her sisters Tricia Leigh Fisher and Joely Fisher. In addition to tweeting about their family's devastating loss, Tricia and Joely shared some throwback photos of their late sibling.

“Breaking my silence with a broken heart," tweeted Joely on Tuesday afternoon, "...the Unfathomable loss… the earth is off its axis today… how dare you take her away from us.”

Joely really was not kidding about the earth's axis — the planet truly is not the same without Carrie. And I am not kidding when I say that 2016 can pack up its stuff, put on its hiking shoes, and leave already. I know I am not the only one who thinks you wore out your welcome a long time ago, 2016.

Here is Joely's tweet in its entirety:

Sending all of the love to Carrie's family.
