If you feel like it's been forever since Christina Aguilera released a new album, you're not wrong. Though the singer has teased new music for years now, she hasn't put out a fresh album in over five years. Yep, Lotus hit shelves all the way back in 2012. Now, though, Aguilera has finally dropped a hint that she's still in the game — and that fans can expect some brand new songs pretty soon.

Late on Monday night, reported Buzzfeed, Aguilera's Instagram story included an image of her Hollywood Walk of Fame star with some sticky notes that a fan supposedly attached. "Dear Christina Aguilera," the image reads. "Where the f*ck is the new album?" In the caption, she assures her fans that, yes, it is actually coming this time. Seeing as the prospective album has been a long time coming, you can't blame fans for having really high expectations. And looking back on the singer's previous hits, it makes sense.

Aguilera first got her big break in 1992 on Star Search and quickly landed a record deal after releasing the single, Reflection, for Mulan, a Disney movie that came out in 1998. She released her debut album just a year later, and it includes that song you may have played on repeat back in middle school: "Genie in a Bottle." In fact, Rolling Stone once listed "Genie in a Bottle" as the fifth best summer song of the '90s. VH1 agreed, ranking it number 38 on its roundup of the best 100 songs of the '90s. Other songs on her self-titled album include "What a Girl Wants", and "Come On Over Baby (All I Want Is You)."

Since 1999, she's released six other albums: Mi Reflejo in 2000, My Kind of Christmas in 2000, Stripped in 2002, Back to Basics in 2006, Bionic in 2010, and Lotus in 2012. And after selling 75 million records worldwide, there's no reason not to be excited for her upcoming album, the name for which she hasn't released yet.

To say the least, Aguilera has kept her fans on the edge of their seats for the past few years — and they certainly haven't lost faith. Here's a compilation of just some of the times since 2015 that she's fervently promised a new album is on its way.

Much more recently than 2015, though, Aguilera has implied that something big is right around the corner. In November 2017, for example, she posted "Thanks @spikelsb for the royal treatment ♥️ Getting back to the throne...." along with a photo of her sitting in a red throne surrounded by heart outlines during an appearance on Lip Sync Battle.

Then there was that other Instagram post (also from November 2017) that was captioned, "New things on the horizon 😉." Fans took it as a sign that the moment they've been waiting for is on its way.

And they'll never stop waiting, as this Twitter user implied. As they say, patience is a virtue. And waiting for Aguilera's new music is definitely testing it.

The fact that her Instagram story included a photo taken by a fan (who presumably also left those sassy sticky notes on her Hollywood star), shows that Aguilera is very aware of the running joke among those waiting for her new music. That, at least, counts for something.

If people can wait over five years for a new album, they can certainly wait a few more days or months to find out what that album is going to be called and when it'll be released. Until then, keep a close eye on her social media accounts for more subtle hints.
