The drama surrounding Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez is never going away, is it? In a new single titled "Some Way" by Nav and featuring The Weeknd, there is now speculation that the lyrics dropped by The Weeknd is actually a dig at Bieber and the fact that The Weeknd is now reportedly dating his ex, Gomez. But did The Weeknd really diss Justin Bieber? Bustle has reached out to The Weeknd's rep for comment, but did not receive a response at the time of publication.
First things first. The eye-catching lyrics go as follows: "I think your girl, think your girl, fell in love with me. She say my f*ck and my tongue game a remedy." All right, where do I even begin? Let's first talk the lyrics themselves. They are super vague, right? The Weeknd could be singing about just anything and anyone. Never once is Gomez's name mentioned.
Plus, if you look at the song's entire lyrics, Nav raps, "Now you gettin' mad because you got replaced." Seeing as this is Nav's song, I'm pretty sure he isn't rapping about Gomez. It appears, overall, that the song is about a woman moving on with someone else, her ex being jealous over her new partner, and the new significant other rubbing it in the ex's face. So it doesn't sound like Bieber and Gomez have anything to do with the track.
And if you think about it, why would the Starboy artist diss Bieber now after all this time? Bieber and Gomez have been broken up for a long time now. They split in 2012. Well, if The Weeknd is throwing shade Bieber's way, it could have something to do with all those times the "Sorry" singer has dissed his fellow musician.
In January 2017, Bieber kind of slammed The Weeknd's music while talking with TMZ. "Hell no I can't listen to a Weeknd song," he replied after being asked if he could listen to a song by him. He then added, "That sh*t's whack."
Then, during the 2017 Grammys, Bieber made another remark about The Weeknd. In the middle of a live Instagram chat on his story, the Purpose singer was asked about his "favorite song at the moment. He replied, "'Starboy' by The Weeknd." He then busted out laughing really hard before adding, "Oh, sh*t. That was funny. We've got to end it now. Oh, that was too funny. Bang, bang!"
I can see why maybe others are convinced that The Weeknd is singing about Bieber. Though, if you think about it, "Some Way" probably wasn't recorded recently and maybe even before Bieber threw noticeable shade at the "I Feel It Coming" singer. What I'm getting at is that The Weeknd wouldn't have known about Bieber's most recent disses to then retaliate if he recorded Nav's song awhile ago. It remains unclear when Nav and The Weeknd actually recorded together.
Whatever or whoever The Weeknd is singing about in "Some Way," it's getting a lot of attention and certainly shows that many are still invested in the Gomez and Bieber drama.
