With the red carpet fashion, the fun opening gimmicks, and the host's sure-to-be-hilarious monologue, award shows always seem to start out with so much excitement. And, while some categories are real nail biters, others are excuses for a bathroom break or time to check what's on other channels. Even if you love awards season, there is no denying that even the most entertaining of awards shows can feel loooooong. So, how long are the 2017 Grammy Awards, airing Feb. 12 on CBS?

Red carpet coverage will kick off at 6:00 p.m. ET starting on E! with the 59th Annual Grammy Awards beginning at 8:00 p.m. on CBS. The show is slated to run until 11:30 p.m. Though, award shows often run longer than anticipated, occasionally cutting into the local programming scheduled after. Despite playing music to cue winners off stage, speeches often run over, planned segments take longer than anticipated, the list goes on and on for potential reasons a show could run over.

If the 2017 Grammy Awards run long, let's hope it is because something entertaining has happened. Here are some events that could happen this year at the Grammys that could make the show last a little longer than anticipated.

Beyoncé Could Make A Surprise Announcement

The world is still reeling from Beyoncé's double dose pregnancy announcement. But, she is the queen of surprises and breaking the Internet. Remember her 2011 VMAs pregnancy announcement? Who knows what she has planned for this year.

The Kanye West Factor

From interrupting Taylor Swift to announcing that he is running for office, you never know what to expect from Kanye at an award show. He's not scheduled to go to the Grammys, but you never know.

A Political Speech

Award show speeches have been known to get political, just look at the recent SAG Awards. And, there's tons of fresh material, which could lead to lengthy speeches.

There Could Be A Streaker

Hey, it happened at the Oscars...

Technical Difficulties

From broken teleprompters to forgetting to read the names of nominees to a winner being in the bathroom when their name is called, all of these things have happened at live award shows. You never know what could go wrong.

Handing Out Food To The Audience

When Ellen hosted the Oscars, she handed out pizza. And, Chris Rock sold Girl Scout cookies to the celebrity audience at last year's Academy Awards. What will our favorite musicians eat at the Grammys?

Ellen Could Take A Selfie

There are all manner of distracting events that could happen at the Grammys to keep them running a little longer than usual — but if it's fun, who cares anyway, right?
