How To Celebrate Easter 2017 If You're Not Religious, Because This Holiday Is For Everyone

Share

Easter is a classically a religious holiday, as it celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Even other traditions generally included in the celebrating of it, including the Easter bunny and use of eggs, have pagan origins. But, can you still celebrate Easter if you aren't religious at all? Of course — luckily, since Christian holidays have dominated the consumer market, there are plenty of ways to eat all the Peeps and welcome the arrival of spring without incorporating religion.

It's also a good time to remember that just as it's perfectly fine to be religious and practice any religious faith, it's also perfectly fine to not be religious at all. Choosing to celebrate this holiday in your own way doesn't mean you are disrespecting the origins of the day, or the different faiths directly linked to it. Things change. Traditions evolve. And as long as you aren't hurting anyone else, you can celebrate this holiday any way you want.

Plus, Easter always falls on a Sunday, so since a lot of us won't be working, feel free to treat it like any other day off and enjoy it as you see fit. Not sure how to make the most of it? Here's how to celebrate Easter if you're not religious:

1. Declutter Your Space

If you haven't started your spring cleaning yet, now would be a good day to clear the nonsense from your closet and donate the stuff you don't want. Toss the rest. Then spend the rest of the season with an organized, non-stress-inducing space.

2. Have A Feast, But Don't Cook It Yourself

Easter is classic feasting holiday, and it usually includes a giant ham in the center of the table. But all that cooking.... meh. Order a giant bag of takeout and fill your table with delicious treats you didn't have to spend any time making yourself.

3. Do Your Taxes

This is probably the least fun thing to do on Easter Sunday, but if you haven't done your taxes yet, you're officially out of time. This is your last chance to get 'em done before Tax Day on Apr. 18, so get to it!

4. Enjoy Some Solitude

Alone time is so underrated. I highly recommend getting some whenever you can. And if everyone else is with their family or at church, take this opportunity to bask in the quiet and just chill.

5. Write Yourself A Love Letter

At the end of this beautiful Easter Sunday, pay special tribute to the most important person of all: You. You are your biggest cheerleader, support system, and the best best friend — so, in a letter, list all the ways in which you are amazing. Because it's the truth. Duh.
