If You Haven't Streamed 'Marvelous Mrs. Maisel' Yet, Amazon Just Made It Way Easier

by Kristie Rohwedder

When an Amazon original series wins awards, apparently everyone wins. As The Hollywood Reporter announced on Thursday, Amazon is celebrating The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’s Golden Globe victory by making it available for free this weekend. So, whether you're an Amazon Prime subscriber or not, you can check out all eight episodes of the hit show's first season. Call this news Mrs. Maisel, because it sure is marvelous. (Sorry, not sorry.)

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Amazon Prime Video Vice President Greg Hart said,

“Big kudos and congrats to Rachel for her first Golden Globe and to Amy for an outstanding first season. We are excited for new viewers to join in the celebration and stream the series for free this weekend.”

Sunday evening’s award extravaganza was a big night for the Amazon series. Star Rachel Brosnahan scooped up the Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series — Musical or Comedy, and the show was awarded Best Series — Musical or Comedy. And the streaming service would like to honor this happy moment by sharing the show with anyone with an internet connection.

You hear that, Amy Sherman-Palladino fans who, for one reason or another, have yet to check out this show? No more excuses. You can experience The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel in all of its glory this weekend. Go ahead and finally let the award-winning, critically acclaimed, and beloved scripted series grace your TV set/laptop monitor/cell phone screen. For no charge at all, you can experience all of the Gilmore Girls Easter eggs that’ve been sprinkled throughout The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Oh, and let your Gilmore Girls- loving heart know that it will most certainly be welcoming another Sherman-Palladino program into the fold. Er, wait. Let's try that again: Let your Gilmore Girls- and Bunheads-loving heart know. Miss you forever, Bunheads.

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel tells the story of Miriam “Midge” Maisel (Brosnahan), a housewife who lives in 1950s NYC. After a series of unfortunate events, Midge discovers she has a gift for stand-up, a revelation that prompts her to pursue a comedy career. The costumes are gorgeous, the performances are top-notch, and Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino's writing is as witty as it is delightful.

You can watch the first episode below. Oh, and fair warning: The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel has a rating of TV-MA, so maybe save it for after work.

When the fantastic pilot debuted in March of last year during Amazon's pilot season, the patience of the audience was put to the test. Yes, the news that The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel had been picked up for not just one, but two seasons was beyond lovely, but viewers would have to wait until November for the rest of Season 1.

Oh, but how that eight-month wait was worth it. As anyone who watched the show when it dropped in November would probably tell you, the pilot wasn’t a fluke (not that anyone thought it would be); the whole season was flat-out terrific and a hit with just about everyone. Look at the first season's Rotten Tomatoes scores, for Rory’s sake. That 96 percent across the board? That isn't something to sneeze at.

But hey, you don't have to take Rotten Tomatoes' word for it: You can check out the charming and hilarious show for yourself this weekend. Stream all eight episodes of Season 1 for free starting Friday, Jan. 12, at 12:01 a.m. local time. The offer will last until Monday, Jan. 15, 11:59 p.m. Clear your schedule and clear your couch, because you have a lot of marvelous television to enjoy this weekend.
