Your Insta game just got a fun new upgrade thanks to Tuesday's announcement that face filters will now be available on Instagram Stories. These face filters, which seem to be more advanced than Snapchats' face filters, include a koala with twitching ears, a spotlight that follows your movements, and — for the algebra lovers out there — math problems swirling around your head. And those are just some of your new options.
Along with Face Filters, Instagram announced two other exciting updates. First, you will now be able to create videos and play them in reverse with a feature called "Rewind." It will be located next to “Boomerang” and “Hands-Free". The other new feature is the addition of a hashtag sticker to your story. Available within the sticker icon at the top right of your screen, you will be able to choose the hashtag sticker, customize it, and then add it to your picture or video. Just like you can click on a user's handle in a story and see their page now, you'll now be able to click on the written or sticker hashtag and be directed to the hashtag page, too.
Back to the face filters, the most fun — in my opinion — part of this update. Wondering how they work and where to find them? Read on for all the information on this soon-to-be addictive new Instagram update.
1. How To Access The Face Filters
To find the face filters, swipe into the camera as if you were going to take a normal picture or video for your story. On the bottom right corner, you'll see the new icon for the filters. Tap the icon and swipe through to try out each filter.
2. Back And Front Facing Cameras Can Be Used
Face filters can be used whether you're taking a selfie or someone else is taking the pic.
3. How Do You Share It?
As is true with regular stories, users will share their face-filtered stories by posting it to all their followers or through Instagram Direct.
4. Face Filters Can Be Used For Videos, Too
The update can be accessed while taking any sort of video on the app. Even with the new "Rewind" feature. Now that could be a sight.
5. Can Face Filters Be Applied To Boomerangs?
Yes, it really is for any video. As an added perk, face filters can even be applied to Boomerangs. Woohoo!
6. Find A Friend For Two-Person Filters
Certain face filters can be used by two people at the same time, which is a great way to spice up a Friday night photo shoot between you and your BFFs.
7. How Many Filters Are There?
Instagram has initially rolled out eight different face filters in this update.
8. Anyone With An iPhone Or Android Can Get Face Filters
To get this update, all you have to do is head over to the app store and upgrade to the newest version.
