Justin Bieber's Mom Opened Up About Him & Selena & It Will Make You So Emotional

On-again, off-again couples often leave fans wondering if some pairings just weren't meant to be. Sometimes, though, signs just point to yes. For instance, Justin Bieber's mom loves Selena Gomez, and it's honestly the cutest. Bieber's mom Pattie Mallette gushed to People about her son's affection for Gomez, for who the singer is as a person, and her appreciation for the two of them as a reported couple. If longtime fans of either popstar weren't sure how to feel about their on-again and off-again relationship, reading any one line from Bieber's mother will likely change their mind for good.

To be clear, though, Mallette did not actually confirm (or deny) her son's reportedly rekindled relationship with Gomez. At the Justice Speaks Holiday Benefit Luncheon in Los Angeles on Saturday, Dec. 9, Mallette gushed to People over her son and his sometimes-girlfriend. The pair have dated on and off since 2010 at the earliest; it would be understandable if the protective mom (and former manager) wouldn't be thrilled with Gomez reentering her son's life. Adorably, this is not the case.

"I love her,” she said to the magazine. “I support anything [Bieber] does, if he loves her I love her, and I’ve met her and we have a special bond...I think she’s precious." Effusive, if somewhat generic. But she continued: “I think anyone with real love in their life is more grounded,” Mallette added, “I think there’s so much confusion sometimes and facade in this Hollywood world, and so it’s important for us to find the ones that truly care and stick with them.”

Mallette added, according to People: "I don’t know so much about their personal relationship because he doesn’t share a whole lot," and here's the pause where Jelena stands hold their breath, "But I love her." Awww,

Now, since Gomez has the Bieber's Mom stamp of approval, it might officially be time to board the Jelena train. The translation from mom to English makes things much more clear: It seems to Mallette that Gomez makes her son happy, and she has a high opinion of her son, so Gomez must be worthy of Bieber. It's like the transitive property of high-profile celebrity romance. Also, she appreciates that Gomez also comes from a tightly-knit household and lives life in the public eye; by her estimation, the sometimes-couple is able to better support and understand one another as a result. She praised the relationship between Bieber and Gomez without commenting on its current state. Also, Bieber attended an event with his mom as his date, and neither he nor Gomez have posted an Instagram that would indicate they're consciously re-coupled. Hmm.

The saga of Jelena has had all the ups and downs of a true first love. They were all over each other until they weren't; their friends seemed to feel weird about it at times (see the famous Taylor Swift reaction .gif), and their social media offered more questions than it did answers. The couple's biggest supporters seemed to jump at the chance to celebrate their reunion, but each singer has their individual fanbase as well; not everyone was psyched that Gomez and Bieber were inching closer to turning up the heat again.

A protective, loving mother is always going to be the fiercest critic when it comes to love. If Bieber's mom approves of Gomez, and feels comfortable enough to discuss her in public, that has to be a sign that Jelena is back on and thriving. When asked for more specifics, though, Mallette remained vague. She also brought up her son's faith. "I think he’s just keeping his focus on God, and really trying to figure out what counts and what matters," she said, which is not exactly an answer to "But are they dating, though?" but still, Bieber's mom sounds like she'd welcome Gomez back into her son's life with open arms.
