Get Ready To Learn More About ‘RHOA’ Star Kandi’s Musical Side In This New Docuseries
Kandi Burruss’s work as a solo artist and songwriter has been featured on The Real Housewives of Atlanta a number of times (*waves at her Grammy, Kandi Factory Studios, and “Tardy for the Party”*), and now Bravo is devoting an entire series to the group that put her on the map back in the ‘90s. On Tuesday, the network released the trailer for Xscape: Still Kickin’ It, the four-part special that will chronicle the reunion of Xscape. Set to premiere on Nov. 5, the program will follow Burruss, Tameka “Tiny” Cottle, LaTocha Scott, and Tamika Scott as they join musical forces for the first time in 18 years. Not unlike a glass of Momma Joyce’s House Punch, the miniseries looks quite good.
In the Still Kickin’ It trailer, Burruss, Cottle, and the Scott sisters rehearse for their reunion performances, have a serious sit-down with Jermaine Dupri, address the conflicts that’ve been brewing within the group for nearly two decades, consider hiring a counselor for the band, and hit notes that are so high, they are mistaken for alarm bells. And yes, it looks like the docuseries will have a happy ending: As any fan who’s been following their journey knows, Xscape’s reunion is officially underway.
Burruss was given an RHOA peach in Season 2, and since then, she's had several Bravo spin-offs. First, there was a music competition show called The Kandi Factory. And then, there was Kandi’s Wedding, a five-part special about her and Todd Tucker's nuptials. And in 2015, there was a series about a ski trip her family took, fittingly titled Kandi’s Ski Trip. However, no Bravo series has documented Burruss’s platinum-selling group reassembling, dealing with longstanding tension between members, and prepping for their first live shows together in almost 20 years. Suffice to say, Xscape: Still Kickin’ It is a big deal.
Back in February, the original members of the band said the thing fans had been waiting to hear for years: Xscape would be getting back together. And it would be happening soon. Just a few months after announcing that they planned to return to the stage as a group, Xscape reunited at the 2017 BET Awards to sing a medley of their hits, performed a set at Essence Festival, and played two sold-out concerts. You better believe their comeback is just getting warmed up. On Tuesday, the group announced that they will be going on their first-ever headlining tour, The Great Xscape Tour.
In the press release for the concert, the quartet says,
“You asked for it! We had so much fun with y'all this summer that we decided to bring the party to cities across the U.S. We decided to do something very special and have our good friends Monica and Tamar Braxton join us! We are beyond excited to have them out with us for the ultimate girls night out show! This is the tour we've always wanted to do and we can't wait to see you there!"
Xscape. Monica. Tamar Braxton. All hitting the road together. This lineup is not kidding around.
In 1993, Xscape released debut album Hummin’ Comin’ at ‘Cha, which would go platinum within a year. Off the Hook, their sophomore effort that features jams like “Who Can I Run To” and “Feels So Good,” went platinum as well. And as for their third, Traces of My Lipstick? Yet another platinum record.
For a while there, it seemed like nothing platinum could stay: After Traces of My Lipstick, the members went their separate ways. Until now, that is. Looks like platinum can stay. And thank goodness for that.
