LOFT Just Added Plus Sizes & These Are The 5 Cutest Pieces

by Amanda Richards

LOFT is a shopping staple for professional women who prefer clothing that's floaty and feminine without sacrificing polish, but until now, plus size women had few workable options to choose from. The launch of LOFT Plus, the first plus size LOFT collection in sizes 16-26, changes that. Now, plus shoppers have a 75-piece collection full of print, color, and both workplace and casual attire to choose from — and at a pretty stellar price point, too.

LOFT's entry into plus sizes is another example of the growing number women's workwear brands that are expanding their size ranges. In December 2017, The Limited (now operated as a private brand by department store chain Belk) announced its expansion into plus. Gabrielle Union's recent collection with New York & Company includes plus sizes, and the Tracee Ellis Ross' x JC Penney 2017 holiday collection was size inclusive up to a 3X.

LOFT's size assortment already included petite, maternity, and tall sizes (in addition to its core line) so the addition of plus sizes is a welcome development. The line includes blouses and dresses made for the office, blazers, denim, and work separates. The collection ranges in price from $20 to $110, making it one of the more affordable workwear options on the market.

While the collection is chockfull of workwear classics and easy-to-style basics, there are some pieces that push the boundaries of what plus size shoppers are normally offered. The LOFT Plus Slim Tie Waist Pants, $79, take the idea of wearing slacks to work (so often sold in plus sizes in black) to a new level:

LOFT Plus also isn't afraid of color, and plenty of the pieces in the collection are vibrant, playful, and perfect for anyone who wants to upgrade their professional wardrobe for spring. The LOFT Plus Wildflower Kimono Jacket, $98, is one such item:

LOFT Plus isn't afraid to dabble in the basics, either. The Distressed Denim Jacket, $79, is a trendy option to give even the most polished, professional plus size shoppers a little bit of an edge:

Even when LOFT Plus does something simple, such as a basic black blouse or striped top, there are details in the items that make them stand out. The Pleated Collar Henley Blouse, $59, has oversized, billowing sleeves and a pleated collar, which takes the concept of a boring black top into a far more interesting space:

As surprising as it may seem, it's tough to find pieces in plus that seem ubiquitous elsewhere — a casual, midi wrap dress for example. Plus size dresses are often offered in a wrap silhouette, but the simplicity of the LOFT Plus Polka Dot Wrap Midi Dress, $89, makes it feel modern and chic instead of old-fashioned:

Of course, not every plus shopper will find pieces they like in the new collection. If you have prefer an edgier, more athleisure-oriented look, you likely won't find anything in the collection that suits you. Additionally, some of the pieces do feel a bit on the mature side. However, the beauty of LOFT Plus is that it doesn't feel like an outlier: Instead of being the random plus size section that happens to be part of the LOFT brand, LOFT Plus feels like an intentional extension of it. In other words, what you're getting in plus is what you're getting in straight sizes — and for no additional cost. For plus size shoppers looking for better work gear, you simply can't get much better than that.
