This 'RHONY' Intervention Will Not Go Well

Heidi Gutman/Bravo

I know that this has been a story line for like… two seasons or so now, but I’m a little sick of hearing about Tom and Luann. We know they’re in love, we know about all of the drama with Tom, and we know that Luann is standing by her man and getting hitched. But there’s more where that came from — the women are staging a wedding intervention for Luann on Real Housewives Of New York in an upcoming episode, and my guess is that Luann won’t be happy about it. (Also, it clearly didn't work, because she did get married.)

This is taking place in the hell portal that Dorinda calls her house in the Berkshires. I have never been to the Berkshires, but I’m sure they’re very beautiful. This is not a knock against the Berkshires, but nothing good ever happens in Dorinda’s particular home. It has nothing but bad vibes and screaming women in it whenever everyone goes up for a trip. This time, from a look at the previews, seems no different — all of the Housewives want to ask Luann if she really wants to go through with her marriage to Tom, and Luann will huff and puff and ask why no one is over the fact that her fiancé allegedly cheated on her, because she is. (Tom has never flat-out denied these claims — he said on the show that he didn’t remember, and then he said to Luann on the phone, “It’ll never happen again.” He and Luann did an interview with People soon afterward in which Tom said, “If I could take it back, I would. I deeply regret the mistakes I've made, and most of all hate the way it hurt Luann.")

I myself would not marry a man like Tom, but hey — it’s not my life. That’s what the rest of the women on Real Housewives Of New York need to realize. It really doesn’t affect them. At some point, a person is just going to do what he or she wants to do, so why don’t we drop this whole “Luann doesn’t have to go through with this” model and let her live? I don’t condone being with someone who doesn’t treat you well, but if Luann is fine with what allegedly happened in the past, everyone else should be, too.
