'Stranger Things' Wins Show Of The Year At 2017 MTV Movie & TV Awards & Fans Are Thrilled
On May 7, the MTV Movie & TV Awards honored the best of the best on the big screen and the television screen. And with so many amazing shows airing right now, the competition was fierce for the Show of the Year Award. But one awesome series pulled through: Stranger Things won Show of the Year at the 2017 MTV Movie & TV Awards on Sunday night and it's so well-deserved.
The whole cast of the show accepted the award on behalf on the series at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, with the kids, of course, taking center stage. Stars Millie Bobbie Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin and more took turns speaking into the microphone, thanking everyone from their parents to Netflix for getting the series made. They also shouted out Stranger Things' creators The Duffer brothers and producer Shawn Levy, saying, "They treated us like true collaborators and not just little kids." Aww.
Winners were determined by fans via an internet vote on MTV.com. As I mentioned above, so many great shows were nominated in this category: in addition to Stranger Things, there was Atlanta, Game of Thrones, Insecure, Pretty Little Liars, and This Is Us. GoT and PLL are TV veterans, having been on the air for quite some time already — they have instantly recognizable title abbreviations and dedicated fans — but the other shows in the category had breakout first seasons last year, winning the hearts of new fans. But in the showdown for the popcorn trophy, Stranger Things was able to pull ahead to win it in the fan vote.
Congrats to the talented cast and crew of the popular show on a well-deserved win. Now, if only Season 2 would come faster...
