All The Hidden Meanings Behind Taylor Swift's Outfits In The "End Game" Music Video

by Kali Borovic

When Taylor Swift's "Look What You Made Me Do" video first came out, it was clear that the album was going to be full of shade. I don't think that anyone was prepared for all of the statement fashion choices though. Taylor Swift's "End Game" outfits threw so much shade, but it also shows her owning her past. Get ready, because these fashion easter eggs are even better than snake accessories.

Fashion is playing a bigger role in Swift's album than ever before. It all started with those snake rings in her merch shop, and it's not slowing down with her recent music video. At first glance, you might think that the "End Game" music video is just a new, high-glam side of swift, but it's so much more than that. Every single outfit has a meaning — and not all of them are about just looking good.

Swift throws some major shade with her sartorial choices throughout the video. She wears snake accessories and plays on her "old" personas throughout a good amount of the video, but the shadiest moment of them all is her snakeskin outfit she wears as she rides through the streets of Tokyo on a motorcycle.

As Twitter user Redgaming14 found, the red and yellow snake-print catsuit is the exact same one that Jeffree Star featured on Instagram. He posted the photo with the caption, "I'm wearing Taylor Swift's skin." Well, looks like she slithered back into it to reclaim the throne of shade.

The music video isn't just throwing shade, though. It's also giving Swift a chance to embrace all of her past "selves" — despite the "old Taylor's" metaphorical death in "Look What You Made Me Do." She wears the same glasses that she does in her "You Belong With Me" video, but this time they're borrowed from Ed Sheeran. She also pulls inspiration from her past magazine and red carpet fashions. Basically, this is a look book of some of her most infamous fashions. It proves that she's owning her reputation, and that's even better than just shading her enemies.

Here's a look at some of her shadiest looks in "End Game," so you can decide for yourself.

1. Snake Earrings

You didn't think that Swift was going to give up on the snake references this soon, did you? Instead of the snake ring that went viral after her "Look What You Made Me Do" video, she rocked the more subtle suffocation on her earrings. Believe it or not, this is the least shadiest of them all.

2. Snake Skin Dress

Swift tracked down the exact same catsuit Star used to mock her and took it for a spin. The look proves that she's taking control of her own reputation, and flipping the script on all of her haters.

3. Rainbow Sequin Dress

Remember that rainbow sequin dress that just about everyone had a problem with on social media? Well, it's back and better than ever. She wore the Ashish dress in one of her first first shoots back after her hiatus. The designer also made her "Not A Lot Going On" shirt from her "22" music video.

This is yet another look that plays into the singer taking control of her reputation — and possibly poking a little fun at herself.

4. VMA 2015 Flashback

Does this look familiar to you? It could just be me, but this top and styling choice is eerily familiar to what she wore to the 2015 Video Music Awards. You know, the one where she got back together with Kanye, before the phone call that proved they could never, ever get back together. It was a pivotal moment in the making of "Reputation," and something tells me that this outfit was intentional.

5. Nerdy Glasses

Swift likely poked a little fun at her past persona when she took off Ed Sheeran's glasses and put them on. These bear an awfully close resemblance to the ones she wore in the "You Belong With Me" video. If nothing else, it's an indication that the old Taylor isn't so dead after all.

6. Oversized Varsity Jacket

Swift is known for wearing her fitting varsity jackets in the past, but this time all of the jackets, including the plaid one she wears on the bus scene, are oversized. She's found her end game, and apparently that means wearing his jackets around. Commence the shade to everyone that told her she'd never find love.

7. Bath Robe

In the past, Swift has worn her personalized bath robe on a plane ride, but this one is so much more than that. It's a direct indication that she thinks over every single outfit that she wears. She's seen sitting in her bathrobe in her closet. But when it comes to Swift, she's not planning outfits —she's plotting her next sartorial strike.

You'll never look at fashion the same way again — at least when it comes to Taylor Swift, the queen of shade.
