How To Make The Most Of Daylight Saving Time

by Kiersten Hickman

Even though you’re losing an hour of sleep, having an extra hour of daylight means you’ll be able to get a bit more done…right? At least, that’s the hope of having an extra hour; more time to be productive! But what exactly are some of the things you can do during the extra hour of daylight after daylight saving time?

Honestly for me, I just want to spend this extra hour of sunlight relaxing outside. Taking time to do what I love, like cook, read, and hang with my friends across a red-and-white checkered picnic blanket with a huge plate of cut up watermelon. Or an extra hour laying out on the beach. Seriously, this is how I would want to spend every day.

But another part of me wants to make the most of that extra hour. I want to work on projects that are collecting dust in the corners of my apartment, or challenge myself to try a whole new work out. Just because summer is approaching doesn’t mean I have to be lazy about it. I can take time to not only be productive, but make the most of that extra hour of sun.

Here are a few ways I hope to spend those 60 extra minutes.

Read A New Book

You know that book that’s been sitting on your nightstand that you have yet to pick up because, you know, time? Well, now you have it!

Meditate

Step out into the sun, plop down your yoga mat, and give yourself some much needed meditation outside in the warm spring air.

Cook A Recipe

Cooking is always difficult when you don’t have enough time for it. But now that there’s an extra hour of sunlight you can finally give yourself some time to cook!

Explore A New Area

Take this opportunity to explore a different part of your neighborhood or city. Chill outside in that local cafe. Take a walk downtown. Find your new favorite place for takeout.

Watch The Sunset

With an extra hour of sunlight, you’ll have the chance to plop yourself somewhere that has a beautiful view of the sun setting, instead of watching it from your office like you’ve been doing all winter long.

Finally Start That New Project

If you’re anything like me, you probably have a project hiding in the corner of your apartment or in the depths of your computer that hasn’t been touched in weeks. Give it a go!

Catch Up With Your Friends

Are there people in your life you haven’t seen in a very long time? Hit them up!

Watch Another Episode Of Gilmore Girls

This is a stretch...but who said you can’t go outside and watch Gilmore Girls on your laptop? I mean, it is an extra hour of sunlight, so now you really have the time to do so.

Go On Picnics

This is one of my all-time favorite activities when it gets warmer out. Pack up a basket, invite a friend or significant other, and plop yourself in a park near you for the afternoon.

Tackle Your To-Do List

It’s way easier to work when the sun is up, so take advantage of this extra hour by tackling your to-do’s.

Be Out In The Sun

In general, just get outside! The sun has missed you probably as much as you have missed it, so take advantage of this opportunity and be outside during that extra hour of sunlight.
