Here's What The Solar Eclipse Actually Means For Your Relationship

There's a good chance that you've feeling very excited about the solar eclipse. And it's an amazing thing to see — not directly, obviously, your eyes will burst into flames or something so make sure to wear protective glasses. But what you may be surprised to know is that the solar eclipse is thought to have some major effects on other areas of your life.

There are a lot of different ways the solar eclipse might affect you, as it represents new beginnings. But, different star signs and birthdays are supposed to have different reactions. And of course, if you're single or in a relationship changes in your love life can mean very different things. If there's anything that has the potential to mix things up, I'd say it's an eclipse.

"Whether you are single or in a relationship, be on the lookout for positive changes in your dating life — if you are single, that could mean you meet someone new when you are least expecting it, have better conversations with a potential romantic partner, and/or experience closer connections in general," Shannon Smith, dating expert at Plenty of Fish, tells Bustle. "As a symbol of new beginnings, a solar eclipse also offers a great opportunity to try something outside of your comfort zone when it comes to dating. If you are normally a bit shy, change things up by sending that first message on a dating app, or strike up a conversation while waiting in line for a coffee."

If You're In A Relationship

In a relationship? Get ready for a deeper connection. "People already in a relationship could potentially reap positive benefits from an eclipse as well," Smith says. "That could mean experiencing less friction with a significant other, a more romantic connection with that person, a better sex life and/or simply having more engaged, meaningful conversations. You can also use the eclipse as an excuse to pay some extra attention to your relationship this week — treat your partner to a date night out, or a movie night in!"

If You're Single And Dating

And if you're single and looking, get ready to benefit from the celestial event, too. "While none of these changes are guaranteed, we definitely recommend being aware of the possible benefits and watching for any positive changes in your love life," Smith says.

Here are her top tips for dating this week:

1) Put yourself out there — be available!

2) Be bold and make the first move — don’t wait for the other person to make the initial conversation or ask you out on a date.

3) Focus on having deeper conversations and get to know someone new.

One day shouldn't make or break your love life. But the solar eclipse is all about new beginnings, so keep it in mind if you've been looking for a change — whether you're single or in a relationship, it can be the perfect time to mix things up.
