First of all, let's hear it for Frieda on Orange is the New Black. That is, of course, if you're cool with major Orange is the New Black Season 5 SPOILERS — seriously. Red's friend turned out to be one of the new season's real MVPs, though her secret hideout met an unfortunate end. What happens to the inmates in the pool on Orange is the New Black? They're united and taking a stand, though their future is uncertain.
Not only is Frieda an expert survivalist who can cook up multiple ways to take a person down, but she's had her own Litchfield haven in an abandoned pool for what appears to be decades. During the riot, several inmates were welcomed into her home away from home. It was the only place that the cops didn't search until Caputo tipped them off to its location. The season ended in a cliffhanger, just as the ten inmates (Taystee, Cindy, Nicky, Suzanne, Piper, Alex, Red, Gloria, Blanca, as well as Frieda) were about to be discovered.
What will happen to these ten women? The show seemed to warn us with foreshadowing that there would be casualties. The Governor cleared the use of deadly force. The inmates do have a gun with metal bullets, rather than pepper spray, in the bunker with them. Other than Piscatella, could someone die in Season 6? It seems possible, but don't want to think about it.
That said, in the final moment of the series, the inmates linked hands and exploded a stick of dynamite in the entrance. While we don't see them set it up, I'm fairly certain that's what happens. The explosive was introduced earlier in the season, giving me major Lost flashbacks. It seems like a deus ex machina, but Frieda also made a poisoned dart out of kitchen supplies. I'll allow it. This was her idea of surrendering while maintaining dignity.
How much did that dynamite destroy? Is Litchfield going to collapse on them? Did they at least take out any of the riot cops? It's possible that the explosion will just draw attention to them, and they'll be taken to the rest of the inmates.
This group includes women who have been a part of Orange is the New Black since Season 1. Though we didn't know as much about Frieda util this season, fans have grown with them. Whatever happens to them next matters — and something tells me that the fight isn't over.
