What's In A Coconut Milk Mocha Macchiato, Anyway?

If you're a Starbucks fan, then you've probably heard that the 'Bux is coming out with a couple of new flavors of Macchiato drinks for spring: the Iced Cinnamon Almondmilk Macchiato and the Coconut Milk Mocha Macchiato. For those of you who love anything that's coconut-flavored, you might be wondering what's in the Starbucks Coconut Milk Mocha Macchiato. Sure, there's bound to be coconut milk... but what else? Starbucks has a long list of beverages, and each one is made of different ingredients to give it its distinct flavor.

But first, here's the 411: Starbucks has declared the Macchiato the official drink of spring — and to celebrate, the two new Macchiatos will become available in the United States and Canada starting on Feb. 28. They both join several Macchiatos that Starbucks currently features on its menu (others include the Espresso Macchiato, the Latte Macchiato, and the Caramel Macchiato). A Tall Coconut Milk Mocha Macchiato (that's 12 fluid ounces) will cost you between $4.25 and $4.75, depending on where you live.

In case you're unfamiliar, a macchiato is a type of coffee drink that's basically a couple shots of espresso and foamy steamed milk on top. In the case of a Coconut Milk Mocha Macchiato, your barista will use coconut milk instead of regular steamed milk. I've only had coconut milk once or twice in my life, but I remember liking it. It's a great non-dairy alternative for those who avoid cow's milk.

This isn't the first time that Sbux lovers have been graced with the Coconut Milk Mocha Macchiato; the drink made its debut last summer, except back then it was an iced version, which makes sense when you're drinking it by the pool on a hot day. The hot version, which is what's about to become available for the first time, is basically the same thing except, well, it's hot. Given that spring isn't quite yet here (raise your hand if your city is experiencing weird warm-to-chilly days), I'd say this is the perfect beverage to help us transition into the next season.

But enough about the weather. Here's what you'll get in a Coconut Milk Mocha Macchiato:

1

Espresso Shots

Nothing wakes you up in the morning like a few shots of espresso. Unsure of what drink size to pick? To give you a better idea, a Tall Coconut Milk Mocha Macchiato has about 75 mg of caffeine. Time to get your caffeine on!

2

Coconut Milk

Of course, this drink wouldn't be complete without, you know, coconut milk. Like I mentioned before, since it comes straight from the fruit, coconut milk is a lot more refreshing and much lighter than regular whole milk.

3

White Chocolate Mocha Sauce

Mmmm, who doesn't like white chocolate? This delicious sauce provides just the right amount of sweetness; plus, it goes really well with coconut!

4

Caramel Sauce

A drizzle of caramel sauce and you've got a one-way ticket to coffee heaven. The sauce, combined with another swirl of mocha sauce, forms a double crosshatch pattern over your drink. Once it's all said and done, the Coconut Milk Mocha Macchiato has a total of five layers of what Starbucks calls "espresso sweetness."

You can't get any better than that. Go coconuts!
