As the festivities wound down and the trophies were handed out, the 2017 VMAs officially called it a wrap. But wait a minute, not all of the categories were announced. Based on astute Twitter observations, the VMAs forgot the Best Rock Video category and fans are not pleased. At the time of writing, no winner is announced on the MTV website, nor during the official broadcast. So, who won the Best Rock Video? Unfortunately, there's no answer as of yet.
UPDATE: Around 11:20 p.m. EST, MTV added the winner for Best Rock Video to their website. It appears that Twenty One Pilots won the trophy, despite not getting a shoutout during the show.
EARLIER: During a show as jam-packed with performances as the VMAs, there's not always an opportunity to present every single award. Some get doled out during the pre-show and others are announced in-between sets. But still, it's disappointing to skip a category entirely. As a recap, here's who was up for the Best Rock Video award:
- Coldplay – “A Head Full of Dreams”
- Fall Out Boy – “Young And Menace”
- Twenty One Pilots – “Heavydirtysoul”
- Green Day – “Bang Bang”
- Foo Fighters – “Run”
Although they're all worthwhile contenders, it would've been pretty awesome to see Fall Out Boy take the stage, considering they were joined by giant creatures that looked like llamas mixed with yetis. Actually, it would have been great to see someone win the award at all.
Here's how Twitter feels about the whole debacle, ranging from enraged to confused.
