Miley Cyrus' reinvention is more like a de-invention, since she's back to performing country-folk ballads that sound a lot more like her Hannah Montana era, as opposed to her more controversy-courting Bangerz and Dead Petz phase. And at the 2017 Billboard Music Awards, she even got emotional while sharing her latest single. Fans are probably wondering why Miley cried while performing "Malibu" at the BBMAs. Well, the final few lyrics seemed to have an effect on the singer, because while her voice was incredibly confident during most of the song, she seemed visibly choked up and then began to cry.

The end of "Malibu" includes the lyrics: "And I wanna thank you with all of my heart / It's a brand new start / A dream come true / In Malibu." Since she's already confirmed that the song is about fiancé Liam Hemsworth, these lyrics are likely a reference to their relationship — the two call Malibu their home. So, that sounds like she's calling their life "a dream come true," which certainly isn't sad news in the least bit.

And while introducing Miley, her sister Noah Cyrus said that she was "happier now than ever," so I think it may be safe to guess that these were happy tears, not tragic ones.

Regardless, it seems as though fans on Twitter may have been crying right along with her. Miley is officially back in the music world and she's pouring her whole heart into it.
