Harry Styles Needs To Go To The VMAs This Year
We're only a few weeks away from the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards, which air on Sunday, Aug. 27. The first set of performers have been announced, and although you might be excited to see the likes of Lorde, Miley Cyrus, and The Weeknd taking the stage, there was one name absent from the current list of performers: Harry Styles. Is Harry Styles even going to be at the 2017 VMAs?
Unfortunately, Styles hasn't commented either way yet, but there is some evidence to go off of for now. (Bustle reached out to a contact for Styles and a rep for the VMAs for comment on his possible attendance, but did not hear back at the time of publication.)
Styles was nominated for two different Moon Person awards this year. (MTV officially changed the name of the awards they give out from Moonman to the more gender-neutral Moon Person for the 2017 show.) Styles was nominated for Best Pop Video and Best Visual Effects for his "Sign Of The Times" video. The news of his nominations gave many fans hope that Styles might show up at the iconic award show, which will be hosted by Katy Perry. There's still a chance he will attend — and a chance he could perform if more performers are announced — but based on his touring schedule it could be difficult for him to attend.
Although he doesn't have a show scheduled for the day of the 2017 VMAs, Styles does kick off his world tour about two and a half weeks later, on Sept. 19. Which means he'll probably be in the middle of rehearsing for and putting the final touches on his show. Most of the dates on the tour are sold out, so it isn't like Styles needs to do any additional press or promotional performances to sell more tickets.
On the flip side, just because Styles was listed as a performer in MTV's announcement, doesn't mean he won't get added to the show, or that he won't show up as a surprise guest during another artists' performance. And let's not forget that he was nominated for two Moon Person awards, so perhaps he might just attend the show and not perform. There are a number of options, so it seems like we'll just have to wait until Aug. 27 to see if Styles shows up or not.
