The former members of One Direction have all embarked on successful musical ventures, but this year Harry Styles branched out in a different way. In July, the singer transitioned into acting with a modest role in Christopher Nolan's WWII epic Dunkirk. The movie is likely to pick up more nominations during this year's awards season, and Harry Styles will likely be at the 2018 Golden Globes to support the cast and crew. The film is nominated for several major awards, including Best Drama Motion Picture, Best Director of a Motion Picture, and Best Original Score. The Golden Globes will take place on January 7th, 2017, and while Styles hasn't officially confirmed he will be at the show his schedule does have an opening. The singer will soon embark on a major world tour to promote his self-titled solo album, but the first dates begin in March. This leaves the month of January wide open, and might suggest that the actor is planning to participate in the awards.

When Dunkirk premiered, Styles' highly-anticipated performance was met well by critics. He attended the New York premiere for the film, and several of the openings in Europe. His appearances on the red carpet at these events show his love for the film, and could suggest that he will attend the Globes to support the nominations. The movie also had a major press campaign, and Styles participated in many interviews and panels to talk about the film ahead of its release. In several of these press junkets, Styles said that he auditioned for the project because of his appreciation for Christopher Nolan. The Best Director category in which Nolan is nominated is one of the Golden Globes' biggest honors, which could be another reason for Styles to appear.

Styles made his acting debut in Dunkirk, and it isn't likely to be his last big-screen performance. He's dodged the question of future roles in interviews, despite the approval from critics. In March, ExtraTV asked the star if there would be more acting in his future but he wouldn't give an exact answer. "Maybe. I love this experience so much, I haven't thought too far ahead," he told the website. "But I loved this experience, so who knows, maybe."

While Styles' himself has been reluctant, it hasn't stopped fans and critics from treating the performance as the start to a successful acting career. In July, Nolan even told The Hollywood Reporter that he cast Styles based purely off his talent and fit for the role. "I don't think I was that aware really of how famous Harry was," he told the publication. "I mean, my daughter had talked about him. My kids talked about him, but I wasn't really that aware of it. So the truth is, I cast Harry because he fit the part wonderfully and truly earned a seat at the table."

The singer-turned-actor hasn't committed to future films, at least not publicly, but given his clear talent it's a door he may want to leave open. If so, participating in the award cycle would be a way for Styles to show his appreciation to the director who cast him in a first role and maintain a presence in the movie world. Dunkirk isn't a character-driven movie and had a fairly large ensemble cast, which might explain why the actors didn't pick up any nominations despite all the strong performances. However, many of the actors, including Kenneth Branagh, Tom Hardy, and Cillian Murphy will likely show up to support the movie at the Globes.

2018 will likely be a big year for Styles, who is already having something of a career moment. In May of 2017, his first solo album debuted to critical acclaim, and the first single "Sign of the Times" debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard charts. In addition to a successful transition to acting, the star established himself as a major force in the music industry.

It's difficult to know whether or not Styles will return to acting after Dunkirk, and his participation in this year's award show season is also unclear. The star does has a convenient gap in his touring schedule and has had an enthusiastic role in the film's press cycle, so it's likely he will make an appearance at The Golden Globes in January. Let's hope so, if not just to see one more of unique suits on the red carpet.
