The Mindy Project is the smart, funny brainchild of producer and star Mindy Kaling. The Mindy Project began on FOX but eventually moved to Hulu, which has given the show new creative freedom, allowing Kaling to push the boundaries of the half-hour comedy. With a dynamic cast and the willingness to push past the structure of a comedy, the show has found great success. So, willThe Mindy Project return for Season 6? Kaling is busier than ever and this may make the show's future uncertain — especially considering it's yet to have been renewed. UPDATE: The Mindy Project Twitter announced that Season 6 will premiere in September 2017, and that it will be the show's final season.

Earlier: The actor has already had quite an illustrious career. Kaling got her career-making role as a writer and actor on The Office. Then, The Mindy Project thrust the star even more into the spotlight. Kaling's had roles in movies alongside A-list actors and has written two books, Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? and Why Not Me? But she's not even close to slowing down. With a new pilot on the horizon, a new book, and more movie roles, Kaling may become too busy for the show she created in her name. Here are some of the many things Kaling may be busy with that will slow down the return of The Mindy Project.

New Pilot

Kaling has always said she would like to create more television. According to Deadline, NBC has ordered a new pilot from Kaling. The show, which is already adding familiar faces each day, would feature Kaling in a recurring role. And, in an interview with Variety about if The Mindy Project may end, Kaling said, "I am tempted by a lot of other interesting things." So, I am excited to see what new TV Kaling will create.

Another Book

Kaling has already written two books and there is constant talk of a third one. Kaling has spoken about wanting to co-write a book with her Office co-star B.J. Novak. Having read her first two books, I am more than willing to pick up anything she pens. Kaling is often at her most brutally honest in her memoirs, talking about everything from confidence and self love to how much being a bridesmaid stinks.

Movie Star

While television is where it's at these days, Kaling has also landed roles on the big screen. Kaling is set to appear in an all-female remake of Ocean's Eleven alongside such stars as Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter, Sandra Bullock, and Rihanna to name a few. She'll also appear in A Wrinkle In Time alongside Reese Witherspoon, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, and Chris Pine.

Business Woman

While it is easy to see Kaling's rising star on screen, she's also active behind the scenes. It would be one thing if she was only acting in The Mindy Project, but she is also an executive producer of the show. Playing double duty is not new for Kaling. On The Office, she portrayed Kelly Kapoor onscreen while winning an Emmy for her writing on the show and even directing some episodes. Kaling is multi-talented and often takes on multiple roles in her various projects.

With everything that Kaling is juggling, Season 6 of The Mindy Project is not a guarantee. While I hope Kaling somehow finds the time to film and produce more episodes, I understand that she's a little busy creating other great content. When one door closes, another one also opens...
