When it comes to color trends, TikTok and Instagram influencers have spoken: Chocolate brown is still riding its wintertime wave straight through Spring and summer, and it’s high time that you pick up some pieces for yourself. Though you will always love your classic blacks and summer whites, brown has quickly emerged as the Gen-Z-approved neutral that looks unbelievably chic. Everyone from Bella Hadid to Kendall Jenner to Zendaya has been spotted wearing the hue, channeling celebs like Mariah Carey and Tyra Banks in the ‘90s.
Why is brown trending on TikTok right now? “It’s a great neutral alternative to black that brings in more warmth and energy,” Barb Whalen, Ford Color & Materials Design Manager, tells Bustle. “It represents strength and security. And the range of Browns can exude nature or elegance.”
And it’s not just popping up in the fashion space, either. People are embracing brown in every aspect of their lifestyle, from their home decor to their car choices. “Brown is easily incorporated in our lives: gardens, interiors or vehicles,” says Whalen. “Brown is trending in interior accents: rich wood in flooring, interior beams, pottery or accent pieces. [It’s] a favorite customer option in vehicles. The Bronco Sport offers rich brown seats, like your favorite chair where you relax after a long day.” People are choosing brown as both interior accents in Ford and Lincoln vehicles, and as an exterior color — Kodiak Brown — on the Bronco Sport, she says.
While chocolate brown enthusiasts curate their entire surroundings in the color, you can incorporate it in your wardrobe in subtle ways, too. Since it’s a neutral, you can pair it with everything from bold prints to ditsy florals, deep jewel tones to pastel hues. You might even choose to go for an all-brown monochromatic look, mixing and matching everything from tan to chestnut with chocolate brown accents.
Ahead, find some of the best chocolate brown items for Spring. Consider yourself influenced.
