3 Times Britney Spears Rocked Normcore

by Maxine Builder

It's no secret that Britney Spears can rock a designer gown or a sheer, rhinestoned jumpsuit, but true fans know that Britney Spears wears normcore too, and that she's actually been slaying that game for years. Let's never forget 2001, when she brought the Canadian tuxedo, arguably the most normal of all normcore looks, to the red carpet of the American Music Awards with Justin Timberlake.

Spears' down-to-earth attitude towards day-to-day fashion is one of the things I love most about her. Despite being a pop star, Britney Spears is so normal in so many ways, from her devotion to her kids to her love of Cheetos, and the ordinary outfits she wears when she's just running around town reinforce that. Spears has no qualms about throwing on a pair of bright pink shorts, old Nike sneakers, and white plastic sunglasses, whilst riding an electric scooter around the neighborhood on a Sunday afternoon no less.

Spears is a chameleon who is able to embrace the ordinary in everyday situations, rather than force herself to be glam all of the time, and if the inventor of the term is to be believed, that's really what normcore is all about. If you're somehow still not totally convinced that Spears is the normcore icon we've been waiting for, here are three epic times she rocked the normcore look, along with tips on how you can get the styles too.

1. Dodgers Game With Kids

Spears took her sons to a baseball game at Dodger Stadium and wore a simple, totally ballgame-appropriate ensemble. While her sons rocked jerseys, she paired a mint green long-sleeve shirt with a pair of dark blue denim and tan leather sneakers. In a show of support for the home team, B topped off the outfit with a blue Dodgers baseball cap — a hallmark of the normcore trend — and finished the look a pair of aviators because it gets sunny in stadiums. It's a totally simple, totally normal look, and it absolutely proves the 33-year-old superstar's ability to look as stylish in a dugout as she does on stage.

2. Sneakers At Disneyland

This look might be more mom-core than anything else, but it's still in the spirit of the normcore trend. Spears took her sons to Disneyland for the Fourth of July, and the trio recreated her Oops... I Did It Again album cover in this Instagram photo. Meanwhile, you can recreate Spears' amusement park look with a floral tank top, a pair of khaki shorts, and a practical and comfortable yet incredibly bright pair of athletic sneakers. (You could also recreate the recreation of the album cover if you're trying to get really meta.) Finish off the look with a pair of bright blue aviators, and you're ready to ride Space Mountain.

3. Appearing On Extra With Mario Lopez

Back in 2013, when her Vegas residency was first announced, Spears appeared on Extra with Mario Lopez for an exclusive interview and in this incredibly charming clip, Spears tells Lopez that she loved his character Slater on Saved By The Bell. The two then swap doll versions of themselves because I guess that's what their lives are like. She also admits that she's running on limited sleep, which maybe explains why she's didn't show up in full glam.

Instead, she's rocking a pretty normcore look: A grey turtleneck, oversized khaki flares, and a perfectly messy ponytail. This natural and simple look suits Spears, and although I can't see her shoes from these shots, I imagine she was wearing something equally comfortable — like these flatform sandals with jute detailing along the sides.

I know it's hard to believe considering her arsenal of sparkly gowns, but guys: Britney Spears really is the normcore hero of our dreams.
