You Have To See Doug Funnie Singing "Trap Queen"

by Tracy Dye

For all those '90s nostalgics out there, a new mashup has been bestowed upon us involving the iconic Doug Funnie from Doug — one of Nickelodeon's former animated gems. In a new remix from Vulture, the genial daydreamer is seen lip-syncing Fetty Wap's "Trap Queen" in a confection of clips displaying his adoration for crush, Patti Mayonnaise. Whoever edited this masterpiece needs an award, because the rap is synced up so perfectly to Doug's lip movements, I almost wondered if this was some sort of lost episode that had just been recently uncovered. I would also feel remised if I didn't note that Doug's alter ego — Quailman — rapping "hit the strip club" between stifled laughs might be the best thing I've seen all year.

Although Doug kept his feelings for Patti under wraps during the series, the two remain one of the most memorable Nickelodeon "couples" of the '90s. Moreover, the ebbs and flows Doug experienced as a product of his high school infatuation was one we could all relate to. I like to think that the two eventually got married after the series ended, and that grill-master, Mr. Dink, would have catered the wedding. Obviously, Skeeter would have been the best man, and Porkchop would have been the ring bearer.

Doug and Patti weren't the only animated Nickelodeon couple — or, almost couple, rather — to ignite all of our squee-worthy feels. The network peppered several of its cartoon series' with romantic story arcs that continue to meander their way onto our proverbial lists of #RelationshipGoals. For the sake of love and nostalgia, let's take a look at a few.

1. Dr. Paula Hutchinson & Filbert From Rocko's Modern Life

Dr. Paula Hutchinson and Filbert were the perfect yin and yang couple. From Paula's unbridled — and frenetic — enthusiasm to Filbert's adorable awkwardness (yes, I just used "adorable" to describe a talking turtle), these two could make any episode.

2. Helga & Arnold From Hey Arnold!

You know what they say about how opposites attract...

3. Cosmo & Wanda From The Fairly Oddparents

If you want to talk about "magical" romances, look no further than these two.

4. Ren & Stimpy From Ren & Stimpy

Although they weren't technically a couple, the crude twosome always knew how to balance each other out — even during the most vile of circumstances.

5. SpongeBob SquarePants & Sandy From SpongeBob SquarePants

With SpongeBob living under the ocean and Sandy being a tree-climbing squirrel, these two definitely overcame some odds to be together.

If the most recent mashup has taught us anything, it's that cartoons aren't simply for kids. Excuse me while I revisit my youth with a binge-watching session of all the old Nickelodeon shows I can find.
