7 Signs One Direction Was Headed For A Split

by Caitlyn Callegari

One Direction fans, I know that this sentiment was passed around once before when Zayn Malik up and left, but it’s more relevant now with news from The Sun that One Direction is reportedly breaking up, than ever: The world will continue turning. That’s not meant to minimize your hurt or trivialize your feelings — it absolutely sucks when your favorite band decides to split (Bustle has reached out for comment, but hasn't heard back at this time). It’s just that maybe you need to know that there is, in fact, a light at the end of the dark tunnel of a boy band break up. And, perhaps it’ll be just a bit easier for you to accept it when you realize it wasn’t just a rash, impulsive decision. Believe it or not, there were signs One Direction was possibly splitting up for a while now.Hear me out. Not everything in life is going to be an apparent, obvious blinking sign of proof. It pays to pay attention the little details and the subtle differences in the way people act and interact. If you were paying attention to those sorts of clues in regards to One Direction, than you’d know that something was up, even if you didn’t know exactly what that “something” was.

Here are eight signs that prove One Direction’s reported split was probably about to happen:

1. The Major Social Media Drama

Let's not forget that Tomlinson also recently favorited this:

Just tiny little indicators that perhaps things aren't as peachy between the boys as it may have seemed.

2. The "Zayn Factor"

Would Malik have given up on the band if there were still a lot left for them to accomplish? *Whistles* Just some food for thought.

3. Which, Leads Us To The "Spice Girls Formula"

As we bitter Spice Girls fans can attest, once one band member leaves, the rest are soon to follow.

4. They're Outgrowing The "Boy" Part Of The Boy Band

Louis Tomlinson is turning 24 this year and is about to be a dad. There's all the proof you need.

5. The "Drag Me Down" Music Video

Was that their way of saying they were all in totally different places? That they're, "Going where they've never been before?" That they're, "Taking a giant leap?" Will I ever stop using space analogies?

Prob not.

6. Simon Cowell Sort Of Already Said It

Earlier this summer, he told The Sun this,

"In terms of the band, they’ve got enough hits now they can take some time off and do some other stuff they want to do. Then I hope they’ll have a little bit of time apart and want to get back together again. It’s a fun job, but it’s absolutely their decision."

So, yeah.

7. Harry Penned A Sweet Yet Strangely Ominous Twitter "Thank You" In July

Uh, Harry? Your nostalgic, sentimentality is showing... And it is/was concerning, however adorable.

There you have it. You can take it for what you will, but I believe that these signs certainly do point to the fact that One Direction was living on borrowed time.
