Ariana's Been Through Some Friendship Breakups

by Daniela Cabrera

When you become super famous really fast, you are going to get a lot of haters. When Ariana Grande released her song "Problem" with Iggy Azalea, it turned into a massive pop hit and suddenly, the actress from a Nickelodeon kids' show was a worldwide phenomenon. Soon enough, her name was on everyones lips and the words being said weren't always the most flattering. While she was dealing with the crazy stories of her diva attitude and the now-infamous "doughnutgate," Grande like counted on some of her famous friends like Taylor Swift and Justin Bieber for support. But naturally, being in your twenties means that a lot of friendships can come and go, so I looked into some celebs who Ariana Grande used to be friends with, but seems to have lost touch with over the years.

It's only natural to go through some friend shake-ups. The thing is, when you're a celebrity, everyone will know if you're not talking anymore, regardless of whether your friendship ended due to a fight or something far less controversial. Ah, the beauty of being famous in the age of social media!

Without further ado, here are some celebrities who are not exactly in Ariana Grande's circle of BFFs anymore.

1. Jennette McCurdy

The Sam & Cat co-stars were friendly enough as fellow Nickelodeon stars, but things started to unravel once they were on their own spin-off show. Rumors of on set tension plagued the show and it was abruptly cancelled in 2014. McCurdy told E! News, "I just feel that, you know Ariana and I were and are extremely close and very like-minded in a lot of different ways and then, sorta as the show dissolved, everybody wanted to find some sort of hidden meaning in our relationship."

2. Drake Bell

Drake Bell is a fellow teen show alumni, who stared on Drake and Josh and posed with Grande various times throughout their career. In 2014, they shared the stage at the Kid's Choice Awards and all seemed dandy, but in a Buzzfeed interview, Bell said this of Grande: "Ariana Grande is a billionaire before she’s been an artist. You have to work to be able to appreciate what you have... what work did she ever have to do in her life?" Whoops. After that he went on a Twitter spree and posted nice tweets for Grande seemingly in an attempt to clear the air, but it didn't look like he got any response from her.

3. Victoria Justice

Justice and Grande worked on Victorious from 2010 to 2013, but things seemingly went sour after Grande alluded to Seventeen magazine that she was bullied on set by the other actors. They had their bouts of Twitter feuding, but seem to have put it behind them. Justice said in January during an interview with Meredith Vieira, "Hopefully, now she’s talked about it, I’ve talked about it, there is no feud. We can put this behind us now and we can practice what Frozen preaches, my friends, and let it go. Let’s let it go!" Maybe their friendship isn't back, but at least things seem amicable.

4. Perez Hilton

Grande once publicly thanked Hilton for posting about her show Victorious back in 2012, but after that, he seemed to go on an all-out war on Grande. He criticized her red carpet outfit for the Grammys, which reportedly brought her to tears, and Hilton also posted a series of tweets claiming he heard she was spotted using drugs. Early in February 2014, it was rumored by GossipCop that Grande and her team were allegedly ready to sue Hilton for slander. Hilton responded by posting a tweet tagging Grande and GossipCop and including his lawyer's name. Bustle has reached out to Grande's rep for comment, but has not yet heard back. So yeah.... Needless to say, these two aren't friendly anymore. Plus, he brought up doughnutgate!

As for the celeb friends Grande currently has, there are plenty. From Miley Cyrus to Nicki Minaj, Grande seems to have lots of popular faces on her side, so even after some rough times with other friends, she's not exactly hurting for pals.
