Veronica Hastings May Have A Dark 'PLL' Secret

by Kaitlin Reilly

Are you still reeling from the Pretty Little Liars reveal that CeCe Drake is A? If you're not sure how you're going to cope now that the seasons-long mystery is officially solved, don't worry: there are still plenty of questions for the series to answer. In fact, one of the biggest questions fans had all season long was left a total mystery. We may know who murdered Toby's mother, who hit Ali with that rock, and who is really underneath the black hoodie, but there's one major story that hasn't wrapped up yet. We still have no clue who killed Jessica DiLaurentis on Pretty Little Liars, though there is one person high on my list of suspects. Could Veronica Hastings have killed Mrs. DiLaurentis?

It might sound absolutely crazy to suspect Spencer's cool and collected lawyer mother as a murderer, but that doesn't mean it's impossible. In fact, if Season 6A gave us any information about Jessica's murder, it's that her dear neighbor Veronica didn't feel so badly about it. In the season's penultimate episode, "Last Dance," we see Veronica get just a tad sloshed on wine and start dishing about her sadly deceased neighbor. The other moms are surprisingly compassionate about Veronica's not-so-warm feelings toward Jessica, but maybe this wasn't just a case of alcohol-induced honesty. Could Veronica have hated Jessica so much that she killed her?

Obviously, Veronica has the right to be pissed about Jessica's constant involvement in her life, and it must have been really painful for her to be forced to be around the woman her husband had an affair with so often. But while that all makes sense, there is something that has bothered me about Jessica's death that points directly to Veronica, and that's how Jessica actually died.

Jessica was essentially poisoned with blood pressure medication — she was on medication for low blood pressure, but was killed by taking one that did the opposite of her prescription. That same medication was found in the Hastings home, because Peter was taking it. Spencer suspected her father of trying to get rid of Jessica with that medication, but chose to believe that he was innocent. Maybe she was right.

Who else might have had access to Jessica's home and those pill bottles? Her neighbor, Veronica. Her motive would actually make entirely more sense than Peter's: she was fed up with Jessica's conniving, manipulative ways and still resentful of her for wreaking havoc on the Hastings' marriage. While we didn't see the women interact much on the show, we have no idea what their relationship was like below the surface. For all we know, Veronica and Jessica might have been worse enemies than Ali and any of her foes.

We're still waiting for the truth to come out about Jessica's murder, and I wouldn't be surprised if Veronica was ultimately the culprit. Now the only question is, will she be found out before Pretty Little Liars comes to an end?
