Christina Aguilera's 2006 VMA Look Was Flawless

by Kali Borovic

The early '00s was a prime time for memorable fashion. From tiny little skirts to denim suits, it's hard to pick just one standout among all the crazy looks celebrities rocked during the decade, but Christina Aguilera's 2006 VMA outfit was one for the books. She made the old-Hollywood look seem effortless as she hit the red carpet in a completely different style from anything she'd worn previously.

From wearing barely-there tops and '70s inspired hats to a combination of leather and lace, it's clear to see that Aguilera wasn't afraid to stand out with her VMA fashion over the years. In 2006 she traded in her miniskirts and hit the red carpet in a classically gorgeous look that turned her into a style icon. The blonde bombshell stepped out in a glittering gold dress that was leagues beyond anything she'd worn previously on the red carpet.

Showing just enough skin to keep her bad-girl reputation, she looked absolutely stunning in the Versace gown. Her finger waved hair and old-Hollywood accessories were absolutely gorgeous as she sparkled down the red carpet. With flawless makeup and a refined, put-together look, this was the year that Aguilera showed that she was a force to be reckoned with when it came to style. She was able to wipe her fashion slate clean and revamp her look, once and for all.

The sparkling Versace gown combined the singer's bold personality with a sexy twist. With just enough ruffle at the bottom to give the look some personality, there was no denying that Aguilera was now a new woman.

Compared to her previous VMA looks, she left a little more to the imagination with the backless gown. She found the perfect combination of sassy and sweet for a refined and memorable style.

Her necklace gave the ensemble even more bling than it already had. She traded in her silver chains for a '20s-inspired diamond necklace that brought a flapper-esque feel to the outfit. Her studded earrings provided the perfect subtle finish.

With a powerful red lip and a heavy lash, this makeup was completely different form the heavy liner and bronzed face that Aguilera sported before. Her glowing skin and sun-kissed cheeks showed that the pop-star was moving in a more mature, but still glam, direction.

Pulling the look together was her finger-waved bob that fit the '20s-inspired look. How very Gatsby-esque!

This is one early '00s VMAs outfit that could easily walk the red carpet today and seem just as current.
