'Carol' Trailer Will Break Your Heart A Little

by Maggie Malach

If there is one thing that we learned from watching the first Carol trailer, it's that this movie is going to bring all of the feels. Set in the 1950s, the movie stars Cate Blanchett as a divorcee who falls in love with a married department store clerk, played by Rooney Mara. While the first preview gave me goosebumps with the range of emotion it captured, the new Carol trailer left me feeling a little broken-hearted.

This longer trailer explores more of the complications of the women's relationship. Given the time period and the complexity of their situation, it's not surprising that there's a whole lot of things going on in the trailer. At the core of the clips, however, is a sense of heartbreak, which is largely attributed to Blanchett and Rooney's palpable chemistry and the sadness in watching them be broken apart.

It's no surprise that both Blanchett and Rooney are garnering rave reviews for Carol. They're both such talented actresses and their ability to bring this moving story to life only underscores that. If you want to tug a little at your heartstrings (or just want to watch some incredible acting), check out the Carol trailer and its most heartbreaking moments below!

1. When Blanchett Notes There Are No Accidents

We're introduced to the characters as they meet.

2. When Rooney Looks Out The Rain-Streaked Window

And she looks so incredibly sad.

3. When We See Blanchett Through Mara's Eyes

Such a beautiful, candid moment.

4. When Blanchett Looks So Distant

Just as she's told she's the most beautiful woman in the room.

5. When You Can Feel The Chemistry

And they're literally just saying each other's names.

6. When Everything Changes

Their relationship is upended.

7. When Blanchett Can't See Her Daughter Anymore

It sounds like she'll have to choose between Mara and her daughter, and it's so sad.

Carol lands in select cities on Nov. 20.
