Did You Catch These Celebs In 'SwOP'?

by Rachel Simon

One of the biggest reasons to see Sleeping with Other People, a new comedy out Sept. 11, is the fact that the movie is brimming with talented actors. There are Jason Sudeikis and Alison Brie, of course, the movie's charming, hilarious stars; then there are Jason Mantzoukas and Amanda Peet, both of whom steal every scene they're in thanks to great supporting roles. Finally, of course, there are the many stars who each appear just for a scene or two, but make huge impressions. The celebrity cameos in Sleeping With Other People add to the movie's already-impressive roster of talent, and provide a "who's who" of some of the best comedic actors in Hollywood.

From beloved TV stars to film's best up-and-comers, SwOP's cameo-giving actors are a mixed bunch, but all of them help in making the movie a seriously entertaining experience. Everything about the film is easy to like, from its When Harry Met Sally-ish plot (man and woman sleep together, become friends, wonder if they should ever sleep together again) to its hilarious dialogue (stay for the credits — trust me). The eight cameos below just add to the greatness, and make SwOP a total must-see.

1. Adam Scott

Its a stretch to call Scott's role a cameo, as he does play a significant part in the movie. Still, it's so startling to see Ben from Parks and Rec playing a cheating, hypocritical, mustache-sporting asshole that his role feels much more like a guest appearance meant to make you gasp than a serious part.

2. Natasha Lyonne

Lyonne plays Kara, the best friend of the movie's protagonist, Lainey (Alison Brie). She's not there for long, and only gets to say a few quick lines, but it's always great when the Orange is the New Black star makes an appearance outside of Litchfield.

3. Marc Blucas

It took me a minute to realize, but that's Riley from Buffy the Vampire Slayer who asks out Lainey at a child's birthday party. I should've recognized him immediately, though, seeing as Blucas plays a nice but boring guy who's clearly inferior to his girlfriend's ex — sound familiar, Buffy fans?

4. Adam Brody

Fact: Adam Brody makes everything he's in so much better. It's not like SwOP would've been bad without him, but having The O.C. star cameo as Sam, a guy who causes a huge scene in a restaurant when Lainey tells him he's been cheated on, was clearly a great choice.

5. Billy Eichner

The Difficult People star plays a speaker at a meeting for sex addicts that both Lainey and Jake (Jason Sudeikis) attend. It's wonderful.

6. Katherine Waterston

Waterson, recently seen in Inherent Vice, makes a brief appearance as Emma, the wife of Matthew (Adam Scott).

7. Jordan Carlos

The comedian (above, on the right), best known for his work on The Colbert Report and The Nightly Show, plays a college RA who unfortunately witnesses a young Lainey freaking out in the hallway.

8. Andrea Savage

Savage plays Naomi, who, alongside Jason Mantzoukas' Xander, is one of Jake's closest friends. She's great in all her scenes, but during the credits, she and Mantzoukas absolutely kill it. It's the funniest part of the whole movie.

If you missed some of these cameos the first time around because you were cracking up too hard, be sure to watch it again — or just do that anyway, because SwOP is so worth your time.
