9 Stages Of Drake Album Anticipation

by Jamie Primeau

What a time to be alive! A new Drake album is dropping Sunday, Sept. 20 at 8 p.m. on iTunes. And coincidentally, that's exactly what it's called: What A Time To Be Alive (or #WATTBA, if you're cool enough to use the abbreviated hashtag). It's a joint project with his rapper pal Future, and they both announced the album's upcoming release via Instagram posts on Saturday night. This confirmed mixtape rumors started by Ryan Phillippe earlier in the week, which pretty much was the most unexpected source of all time. But hey, looks like he was right! The Cruel Intentions actor will now be our go-to source for all music-related news.

While the album release is only a few hours away, that still feels like a lifetime. Especially since Drake has kept us waiting for Views From the 6 for quite awhile now. Sure, he gave us his surprise mixtape If You're Reading This It's Too Late back in February. But as great as that was, I'm never not in need of new Drake music. It's like pizza — there's no such thing as too much.

I'm sure I'm not the only one dying to hear his new songs. Here are the emotional stages of waiting for Drake and Future's What A Time To Be Alive, because the impatience-slash-excitement is real.

Stage 1: Surprise

Really?!?! What a gift. Not only is Sunday night Emmy night, but now it's also officially Drizzy night.

Stage 2: Disbelief

This is really happening, right? It seems almost too good to be true.

Stage 3: Happiness

Best. News. Ever. Monday will suck way less with new Drake music to get you through the work day.

Stage 4: Pride

Drake really did start from the bottom... and now he's here. Having watched him since his Jimmy Brooks days, I feel like he grew up right before our eyes. It's almost like we went to high school together (except, you know, via my TV screen).

Stage 5: Nostalgia

Oops! Mentioning Degrassi just made me incredibly nostalgic. Also, remember his first big song? "Best I Ever Had" will never not be great.

Stage 6: Impatience

Wait, where is the album? Do I really have to wait all these hours? Has time ever moved this slow before?

Stage 7: Anger

I cannot believe Drake would do this to me — announcing the album on Saturday and making me wait all the way until Sunday. How could you torture us like that? How could you!?

Stage 8: Acceptance

Know what? It will be worth the wait. Good things come to those who wait and all those other cliché but true sayings. I can hang in there a few more hours! I got this.

Stage 9: Excitement

I am so ready for this. The album title is a self-fulfilling prophecy: it is the BEST time to be alive.

Bring it on, Drake! We're ready.
