When Is Kanye West's New Album Coming Out?

by Alex Kritselis

I hate do this do to you, but I have some bad news, Yeezy fans: Kanye West's new album, SWISH , may not be coming out as soon as we'd hoped. In fact, during a new interview with Vanity Fair, the 38-year-old rapper seemed to suggest that we might have to wait another year before we get to hear it. Ouch. When asked why he chose to use a new song called "Fade" during his recent New York fashion show, Yeezy Season 2, West replied:

We had a couple options and I just thought it sounded good against the people. For the 40 theaters across the globe, for the kids that all went to see it in theaters, I thought they’d be happy to hear some new music. I’ve been doing that [making a new album] too. That’s like a sonic landscape, a two-year painting. That song I played has been a year and a half in the making and it may be still a year from being complete. But it was to let people get a glimpse at the painting.

Reporter Dirk Standen tried to get West to clarify his statement, asking, "It could be another year?" Unfortunately, West's response was vague: "I’m not sure. I’m not worried about the years. I’m worried about the life and the body of work that I can put out while I’m breathing." (Be sure to check out West's full Vanity Fair interview here.)

It's a massive bummer to learn that SWISH probably isn't just around the corner. Thankfully, there are a couple of things you can do to cope. Your first option is to listen to the five songs West has put out so far — "Only One," "FourFiveSeconds," "All Day," "Wolves," and "Fade" — on an endless loop until SWISH arrives. (Just kidding... sort of.) Your second option is to check out some new music from Yeezy-endorsed artists in an attempt to fill that massive Yeezy-shaped hole in your heart. Here are a few suggestions to get you started:

Tinashe

I love up-and-coming R&B/pop singer Tinashe — and West does, too. The 22-year-old artist first caught West's attention when she dropped the music video for her single "All Hands on Deck" back in April. If you're not familiar with Tinashe yet, be sure to check out her debut album, Aquarius. It should definitely help ease your pain. (Her next LP, Joyride , is due out in November.)

The Weeknd

Everybody digs The Weeknd — and West is no exception. I mean, did you SEE him dancing to "Can't Feel My Face" at the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards? If that's not a ringing endorsement, I don't know what is. The Weeknd's new album, Beauty Behind the Madness, is available everywhere now. I suggest you look to it for solace during this tough time.

Fetty Wap

Fetty Wap's breakout single, "Trap Queen," was reportedly West's favorite song back in February. The newcomer's self-titled debut album is out Friday... what are you waiting for?

Drake

West's love for Drake is well-documented. The Canadian rapper's new mixtape with Future, What a Time To Be Alive , just dropped. You know what to do!

Rihanna

West is the executive producer of Rihanna's long-awaited new album, affectionately called "R8" by her fans. The 27-year-old hit-maker premiered her West-featuring lead single, "FourFiveSeconds," back in January, but, curiously, there's still no sign of the project. Fortunately, you can still seek comfort in recent promotional tracks like "Bitch Better Have My Money" and "American Oxygen."

Hopefully, listening to these five artists will make the wait for SWISH a little bit easier. Good luck, my friends.
