24 Things I'd Like to See More of in 2014
by Samantha Jaffe
It's a new year, and in the spirit of new beginnings, new starts, and everything else fresh and shiny, I've compiled a list of 24 things I would like more of in 2014. This, mind you, is a rough list. Many of the items in it contradict each other. They are presented to you in no particular order. They run the gamut from serious (gun control, please!) to utterly frivolous (live renditions of musicals, please!). Are they all things the world needs more of? Debatable. Are each of these items/people/procedures/ideas something I think the world could use more of anyway? Absolutely. With no further ado:
- Concept albums (because we should all still be worshipping at the altar of Beyonce)
- Frank discussions about white privilege
- Vegas shows for pop icons
- Jennifer Lawrence GIFs (no, there aren't enough, Buzzfeed notwithstanding)
- Longform (Internet) journalism
- Kiese Laymon
- Ice dancing (thank god the Winter Olympics are coming)
- Integrity in organized sports
- Access to and the destigmatization of mental health care
- Hooded leather jackets
- Really, really excellent SNL sketches
- Women in Congress
- "The Gospel According to Kanye" (a compilation of all of his tweets would do it)
- Gun control
- Songs about being certain ages
- Truly hilarious TV shows (read: not HIMYM)
- Simon Doonan
- Micro-loans
- GSElevator tweets
- Jobs for just-out-of-college types (and for everyone else)
- Pitbull
- McSweeney's Internet Tendency
- Live renditions of musicals
- Tressie McMillan Cottom
